as of this morning most of the small ponds and lakes had a skim of ice on them and most stayed that way all day. i know it's just a tease but it can't be long now, i'll guess about a month from now.

but until then i'll raise a glass to ice fishin the other way!!!!!!

BILL I GOT BAD NEWS. THE 12POINTER HAS MET ITS MAKER BY WAYS OF A CAR AND THE GAME COMMISION HAS HIS HEAD AND RACK. I WAS TOLD BY ONE OF THE NEIGHBORS NEAR BY THAT HE WAS THERE WHEN THEY PICKED HIM UP AND HE SAID THE BUCK HAD A 23 1/2" SPREAD ON HIM AND HIS TINES WERE OVER 12". I WENT OVER TO THE GAME COMMISION TO SEE IF I COULD GET A PICTURE OF HIM, BUT THEY SAID HE WASN'T HERE, SO THAT MEANS THE DEPUTY TOOK HIM HOME AND PROBALLY WILL END UP ON HIS WALL FOR BRAGGING RITES. THAT'S JUST NOT RITE. I GUESS THAT'S JUST MY LUCK, SO I GUESS I'LL RAISE MY GLASS IN HONOR OF A GREAT BUCK. I ALSO WAS TOLD BY THE SURROUNDING NEIGHBORS THAT THERE IS AT LEAST 2 MORE GIANT BUCKS STILL ROAMING THE WOODS AND THEY ARE JUST AS BIG. I STILL HAVE HOPES. IF THE WEATHER KEEPS UP WE WILL BE ICE FISHING IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS.  BRING IT ON.

this is my 3rd. attemp to make a post on this thread in the last 5 minutes. and i haven't been able to post now for 3 weeks. this bites and could drive one to drink, so uncle jim is here to help.

i've seen some guys going out on some of the smaller and shallower lakes around here now for 4 days. only couple inches on them but they are out trying. i'm still out hunting, so it's going to be a bit before i be going out. but i'm ready.

let's try this one more time

will had to log in and out about half dozen times before it would even let me into the forum. then a couple more times to let me post. lets get real.i even sent an e-mail about this place last week and haven't seen or heard a thing from them. no wonder this place is slowing dieing.

but anyways we are getting freezing rain throu the nite. it has turned to all rain for now. but it's suppose to turn to all snow this afternoon. this will probaly slow down the ice making machine, but i don't think it will be much longer. i'm planning on going ice fishing around the christmas break from school, even if i have to go up north a bit to do it.

i wonder how apple jack is with shaved ice in it would be. can't have much thou, have to go to work this afternoon at wally world.

jerry i will take it easy on the apple jack. it's about the only thing i like that has a kick to it, so i don't want to make it were i don't like it

people are ice fishing on the small, shallow lakes and channels as of last weekend. most are doing pretty good i've been told. ssooo maybe i can find some time to hit the ice over the christmas break.

I haven't been here in a while but I can tell ya'll we been icing since the 3rd week of November 2008 and then of course doing some ICE FISHIN DA OTHER WAY when we get off the ice.  We've got almost 18" of ice already with lots of snow.  The 'eyes have been very cooperative and the subsequent eatin' has been a'treatin'!  Great to see this thread is still active - waytogo Kinger!

I agree WW.  Its always good to keep the good threads going.  I'm just hoping to hit the ice more in '09 than I did in '08.  Guess that's my resolution.

Have a happy new years all, and enjoy 2009!

Just got off the ice and what a morning for the New Year, multiple gills in the decent range and one 17 inch rainbow. Hope this is a new start for the fishing season ahead. Now for the crushed ice smoothy apple pie before cleaning.
Keep your lines tight and feel the big bite

WELCOME BACK WAYNE. IT'S BEEN AWHILE MY FRIEND. WE DEFFINATELY HAVE SAFE ICE HERE AND THERE ON THE SMALLER LAKES AND PONDS, BUT I HAVEN'T HAD THE CHANCE TO ICE A LINE. BEEN TO BUSY WITH HUNTING DEER AND SPENDING X-MAS IN SOUTH CAROLINA AND FLORIDA WITH MY 2 BOYS. NOTHING LIKE STROLLING ON THE BEACH IN SHORTS AND A SHORT SLEEVE SHIRT ON X-MAS EVE AND X-MAS DAY WHILE SIPPING ON A BEAM AND COKE AND ALSO WATHCING THE BABES IN BIKINIS.  ALSO AFTER NEXT WEEK WHEN DEER SEASON CLOSES THE ICE FISHING BEGINS AND THE 3rd WEEK OF FEBUARY WE ARE PLANNING A TRIP TO CANADA FOR SOME WALLEYE FISHING. HOPE EVERYBODY HAS A GREAT NEW YEAR AND WAYNE PLEASE TRY TO STOP BY MORE OFTEN.

Great to hear some are getting and others are trying to get at it!  We went this morning hunting walleyes on Whitefish Lake and never drilled a hole.  We got out about 300yds from shore and hit slush big time.  One sled (the one pulling the tobaggon) started to bog down so we pulled up to avoid the 2nd sled becoming slushed.  We were in snow, slush then water over 12".  The bogged sled has a studded track  so we unhooked the tobaggon, shoveld the slop until the track could bite into the ice and then.  We had 2 days of mild weather enough to turn the lake into a bog despite having over 18" of ice.  We got the sleds to shore and decided to give it up for the day.  Cold won't beat us, snow won't beat us....but fighting slush can set ya back.  Good luck to everyone else and I'm hoping to drop by more often.  Kinger, how's things been around Posse Pond?  Always good to hear from you buddy!  Good luck icing in Canada.

WAYNE I SURE MISS CHATTING WITH YOU AND SEEING THOSE PICS WITH YOU AND THOSE YOUNG BUSHWACKERS UP AT THE LODGE AND SIPPING SOME OF THAT STUMP JUICE. I'M STILL TRYING TO PUT SOME MORE VENISON IN DA FREEZER. I HAVE ONE THAT I SHOT WITH THE IN-LINE MUZZLE LOADER. STILL LOOKING FOR A DECENT HORNY ONE. THE 2 I WAS HUNTING WITH THE BOW, GOT KILLED BY VEHICLES. ON THE WAY HOME FROM CHANGING THE CARDS ON MY GAME CAMERAS, MY FRIEND AND I SAW 2 MONSTERS IN A PRIVATE AREA WHERE NO ONE CAN HUNT. ONE WAS A REAL THICK 8 POINTER AND THE OTHER MADE THE 8 POINTER LOOK LIKE A BABY. HE WAS A 10 POINTER AND FROM WHAT WE COULD DERIVE, HE HAD TO HAVE AT LEAST A 24" SPREAD. JUST MY LUCK "eh". WE HAVE ONE MORE WEEK TO HUNT WITH THE REGULAR SMOKE POLE AND BOW. AFTER THAT IT IS ICING TIME.
