Is there any advice or techniques you can give to kigging or setting traps for salmon.  What are good lures or baits to use and how do you find them?  Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

The winter salmon we catch are stockers by the state in various lakes we fish. There are open salt water fishing for winter kings, but thats quite a drive for us in the interior. I make it to the coast and salt water only about 20-30 days a year.

We use shrimp, cut hereing, artificial eggs, artificial lures (spoons mainly) most of the time the bait is stationary at a depth of no deeper than 4 feet of water. When we fish for lakers and arctic char of course we go deeper...the rainbows and landlocked salmon can be caught mostly in 8feet of water or less.

No special secrets with us...hope this helps? Of course we use a strong amount of "The Force" when ice fishing.

    TSS

HEY THERE JEDI. I HAVEN'T BEEN ON THE ICE AS OF YET. THERE IS SAFE ICE ON CERTAIN LAKES AND PONDS, BUT WE HAD A WARM SPELLAND LOTS OF RAIN AND IT HAS PUT SOME OF THE LAKES AND PONDS UNSAFE. I JUST GOT BACK FROM DOWN IN SOUTH CAROLINA AND FLORIDA. MY WIFE AND I WENT DOWN FOR CHRIATMAS TO SEE OUR BOYS AND IT WAS IN THE 80s. WE WERE IN SHOTS AND SHORT SLEEVES WALKING ON THE BEACH, BUT WE ARE BACK UP HERE IN THE COLD. RIGHT NOW I'M BACK HUNTING FOR DEER WITH THE SMOKE POLE AND CROSSBOW, SO UNTIL THE SEASON CLOSES THERE IS NO TIME FOR ICE FISHING. NEED TO PUT MEAT IN THE FREEZER. HOPE ALL IS WELL WITH YOU AND HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY NEW YEAR.
