We have about 6 1/2 inches of ice here in NEPA. I went out on a pond near my house that is very good for panfish and Bass during the spring and summer, so I finally decided to fish it this winter with tip-ups. I spread 3 tip-ups out on the pond towards the middle. It's hard to find a bait shop conviently open when i need bait..so I am using salmon eggs as bait. I am unsure of the depth of the pond, It's not that big of a pond...but fairly big.....................Is it my bait? Bait Depth? or anything else that I am doing wrong? ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!! THANK YOU!

1st OFF WELCOME TO THE CLUB. WHERE IN NEPA ARE YOU FROM? I'M FROM LARKSVILLE, WHICH IS CLOSE TO WILKES-BARRE. WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE POND? I MTE HAVE FISHED IT. AND TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS, YES YOU ARE USING THE WRONG BAIT, FOR TIP-UPS YOU SHOULD BE USING MINNOWS FOR BASS AND FISH THEM OFF THE BOTTOM ABOUT 6" TO A FOOT. NOW FOR PANFISH YOU NEED TO JIG ABOUT 6" OFF THE BOTTOM WITH ICE JIGS TIPPED WITH EITHER WAXIES, MOUSIES OR MAGGOTS. KEEP MOVING AROUND THE POND TRYING DIFFERENT SPOTS. IF YOU HAVE ANY MORE QUESTIONS JUST ASK. GOOD LUCK.

Whats the target fish your after? Never heard of tip-ups for panfish or bass. We usually jig for them with waxworms and mousies.
Keep your lines tight and feel the big bite

Aahh, Thanks King, I thought that was the problem..

Yeah, I'm slightly Northeast of Wilkes-Barre in the countryside.

And the pond is on my neighbors property..unnamed really...it's very isolated  and hasn't been fished in 30 years until i found it 2 years ago!

Ive caught bluegills and green sunfish in a pond by my house using tip -ups with  a chartreuse gamakatsu hook and a glowing bead above it tipped with a waxworm. But by far, it's best to get an ice fishing rod and reel and some tackle for panfish with waxworms. I usually buy mine at Walmart. I recommend for a rod and  reel the Frabill Panfish Popper Plus in light 26".
    Walleye. Tight lines.
