Hey folks, I've never tried it yet seeing as I'm more into the "summer" type fishing, but I'm finally ready to broaden my horizens. Can anyone lead me in the right direction as to where in Massachusetts one could go for a satisfying experience? Also, which type of gear would I need, and how the heck to do you use it, ha ha...

I'm truly a novice when it comes to this type of fishing, and any and all help would be appreciated!

Well welcome to the world of Ice fishing Hedge 14 hopefully this info will help you out. Comet Pond, fort pond, Bear Hill pond are just a few of the places to go for a good ice fishing experience.

     http://www.mass.gov/dfwele/dfw/habi...d_maps.htm

Check out this link and click on the part of mass your looking to fish and this will give you a list of ponds and places to go to ice fishing as well as the species and the depth of the body of water.

As for gear go to Dicks Sporting Goods or Bass Pro they have a great wide selection of Ice fishing Gear and Augers for a day on the ice, or you can check out craigslist under the sporting section and look up ice fishing They have a lot of great gear in good shape for a cheap price. Your gunna wanna bring a cooler with food and drinks and a small camping grill with a couple bottles of propane to maybe cook up some food, soup or hot Chocolate. As for how to use the gear i could sit here all day and talk about how to use ice fishing gear so what i recommend is go on youtube and look up " How To Ice Fish" and you can find videos on how to use tip-ups and how to bait the hook with the shinners. If there is any other sort of information that your looking for search the web on the basics of ice fishing and this will give you a wide selection on all sorts of ice fishing gear needed. Feel free to PM me or reply back in this post and i will try to help you out as much as possible. Hope to see you on the ice this year!

I'm from minnesota, but icefishing is icefishing. 1st go talk to someone at the local bait shop, get a strikemaster 6in. hand auger only a strike master because it has a knob on the top and not a handle, ice fishing poles, maybe a flip shelter and a Mr. heater.  Do you do any crappie fishing?  If yes go to those lakes.  Do you own a flasher if so use it, but you need to get a ice ducer.  Here are some web sites to go to iceteam.com, davegenz.com and icefishingtoday.com they will tell you everything you need to know.
