ive been tossing some ideas around on how 2 make a portable ice house and i just want 2 see if any1 else has tried this...

Sorry can't help yah on this one. I bought an Eskimo pop-up ice fishing hut that is portable and effective. For the price, you may want to consider that option...?

a couple of my friends and I just built a 6'x8' wooded ice shanty. It has 2 flip down windows, big door, is framed with 2x4's then ply wood for the outside walls. Nothing fancy, its mainly to keep us out of the wind and to hang out in a little bit while we are on the ice. we have a metal rack that is made for a pickup truck to hold ladders which we flip upside down and it works as a perfect sled because there are rails on each side. It slides along great just by giving it a push but we use the snowmobile to tow it sometimes as well.

Hi ACassidy, welcome. It kinda depends on what you want to do with it. I have a Clam 5600 that we take when we are going with more than one fisherman, and a couple of HT Polar Express one man shelters if alone or moving a lot. I also have a wooden fish house that I leave on the lake all season. It's sturdier and can be locked up. I've tried a couple of homemade "portable" shacks. For the money, it's not worth the aggravation. Hope this helps. Steve

Built a 6 hole portable to fit in the back of a pickup box. Plywood base supported by 2x4, and made the north and south sides out of plywood also to build a type of frame. Then I used tarp for the sides to make it easy to fold up. Then short braces that fit in each corner of the north south sides with nothces cut in the base to keep the corners up. Works great, but my hint for you is to try to keep it as light as possible.
