about 25 years ago I met an oldtimer, who has since past, who introduced me to poor man's shrimp.  At the time I enjoyed this wonderful feast he served never asked how he made it.  All I know is he caught perch ice fishing. They were filleted a certain way so when boiled they would curl like a shrimp. Served with cocktail sauce. has anyone ever heard of this?

Perch fillets are notorious for curling when you cook'm. Tail section of course.

Yep, I used to eat them years ago like that. Smaller perch worked well that way.
