i live in so cal. im goin to either huntington, newport, or balboa pier on tuesday, and i was wondering were i should look for the leopards and big rays.
ive got a 12' medium action, medium power shakespeare tidewater rod, with a diawa DF 100A spinning reel spooled with over 500 yrds of 20# mono, and a 4/0 octopus hook tied to an 18" leader of 40# mono, with a 2ounce slider.
whats the best bait to use this time of year? fresh mackerel, squid, anchovy, sardines, or something i can catch outta the surf?
also will it be better to fish at night or during the day, in the surf or at the end of the pier.
anytime ive hooked sharks ad rays, was by accident fishing for bass and sculpin with either shrimp or squid. But i also see people fishing for them and catching them. each time there at different sides and ends of the pier.
