    I'm going to be moving to VA soon, by next spring, I'd like to be ready for some fishing, can use whatever help I can get. Tips, bait, equip. the whole nine yards. Please don't go crazy with the Top of the line rod and reel suggestions. Mid range will do. I don't know what I'm fishing for. Thanks ahead of time.

    Hey troutman , I'd recomend a Penn 209 reel and a decent quality medium heavy rod. This is a good choice for pier or near shore fishing. I've used this setup for many years , both saltwater and freshwater for big  flathead cats.      Happy fishing.

    I noticed your post on the bulletin was back in 2007 - how's the pier fishing going - I live here in Virginia and love the saltwater  surf fishing except for those dag on skates but they make good scallops anyway. Comment please  let us know whats biting and what s running right now I know you should always be able to catch some decent size sand shark and they make great eating when you deep fry them. I have found that October and early November is the best pier fishing season around but I dont fish right after a local hurricane or tropical storm - I dont know why but the fishing has never been productive you would think that it would stir them up but I think it makes them nervous.

    I joined in 2007, and posted a question in Aug 08. Haven't got to VA yet, looking forward to it though.

    Hey, would like to talk with ya some more about fishing saltwater.
