so i live here in bellingham washington and fish most all of the lakes and rivers around here but it just occured to me that i live next to one of the biggest bodys of water in the world and never fished it ( hard to believe huh) so i was wondering if anybody knew what kind of fish could be caught from shore and how to do it.

Likely if you can find a jetty you can find bottom fish, flounder may be present though that is speculative as I am basing that off Oregon and definitely Sea Perch or Surf Perch.

Basically anything you can find living in the area you are in makes a good bait: clams, sand shrimp, fleas, blood worms, herring, sardines and other bait fish.
I am going out tomorrow to Florence, OR to fish for flounder and rock fish inside the jetty/tidewater while crabbing.  From what I have been able to find on rigging the best bet is a fish finder rig with whatever bait you decide on, which is basically:

    Good luck!

I'll be fishing in the area this webcam aims at:

Probably on the ocean side of the channel near the rocks and flat sandy bottom.
