if your going down there some captains will provide tackle for you aand some wont, if your bringing your own, try and get some doa shrimp and poppin corks, gulp shads, jig heads varying sizes, and some topwater plugs. mirro lures will work really good for the topwater and subsurface stuff. this will all work good for trout too. in virginia early summer we get big 60 plus pound reds that move through its hard to time em but if you do and then locate them its really easy to get em, if you look up rudee inlet online in virginia beach there are several charter captains out of there

My Father and I fish often for Pike and Walleye up north. I have seen many programs on television about redfishing and it looks like a blast.

Any information or recommended guides for a trip would be most welcome.

    We want to do a 4 or 5 day trip/ 3-4 anglers/need lodging

What are the best times to have a shot at some bulls and action fishing for reds or specks.

    Thanks

    Joe

Hey Joe, I'm an Outdoor Writer and Editorial Photographer in the outdoor industry. I write for Bass Pro Shops, Kayak Angler, Bassmaster, occasionally for Cabela's, and I'm a weekly columnist and feature article writer for THE FISHERMAN magazine, arguably the largest sportfishing magazine in the northeast. In September I was invited on a writer/photographer junket to fish in Venice, LA. We stayed at Ryan Lamberts' Cajun Fishing Adventures in Buris, just one town north of Venice. We fished for 'specks and reds, and actually got offshore as well. The fishing was spectacular! The lodge is clean and modern and if you like Cajun food, Ryan Lambert the owner, does his own cooking. There's a pool and hot tub in the back and the place is really fabulous. If you go, make sure you have some of Ryan's smoked redfish chip dip. You'll want to take a spoon and scoop it right up! His website is www.cajunfishingadventures.com and his email is cajnfish@aol.com. I'm a little suspect about his email, but his phone number is 985-785-9833. Ryan can hook you up with a guide as well. Tell him Joel Lucks sent you! Best wishes and I hope you go. Joel info@joellucks.com www.joellucks.com wwwjoellucks.blogspot.com (visit my blog for some Louisiana redfish pictures!)

Ha I will tell you what. I live in Long Beach Missisippi and the reds are big hogs right now if you want a bang for a buck. Come to Long Beach, or Gulfport area We have alot of good guides here also. They might not have a fance camp but we have alot of fun here. And if you want most of the chartes offer day or 3 day trips out in the gulf and you can go buy vines ls and you will be taken out to the blue water. I move here 2 years ago and fish atless 3 to 4 times a week. Great to live down here.  In April if yoy want to what the Cobia will be starting there migration back up from Florida to spawn and for the summer. You now I feel very lucky to have fish up in Walker Min. when I was young. My folks had a caben on Long Lake up there And cut my teeth on Northern & Muskey. I did no fishing for almost 25years because I got maryed and lived in Denver Co. They caught fish to eat that I used for bate. When I got here in Miss. I feel in love with the saes. I will live out my remaining days on this water. Lynn Mogan Deepsae loven it
