for starters the cork system itself is made of wire usually if its a true popping cork, its fitted with beads and metal balls to make more sound. when you throw it out allow the ripples around it to settle and disappear. when with one sharp motion jork the rod tip down towatrds the water or in a down and out motion at an angle. whichever is more comfortable for you. this will cause the cork to jerk forward and push water out of the way. the straight down motion is best because it actually pulls the float under the water some as well as move soem water. once you perform this action let the ripples disappear and repeat. works good over all types of bottom in shallow water beteen 3 to 6 ft/ the process should eb rather slow, since you are accounting for the ripples. you will knwo when you are doing it right by the audible pop gurle sound the cork should make.
