Hey everyone.  I live in Illinois and I'm heading down to Alabama for a week to the Gulf Shores area.  I plan to do some bass fishing in the lakes away from the gulf but should I be worried about the mixture of salt water and fresh water on my reels?  I plan on taking a Team Diawa Viento, Shimano Curado E, and Quantum PT Tour burner for bait casters and a Quantum PT Energy, and a Diawa Fuego spinning reels.  I don't want to screw any of them up.  I was wondering if they could handle a little salt water and if there was any way to clean them to prevent any damage.  Any suggestions would help a lot.

the daiwa and shimano reels should handle it just fine im not sure about the quantum though. i use several what you would call fresh water reels for pure salt fishing. the only thing you really have to remember to do to ensure that you dont from rust or corrosion is that when you are done fishing for the day take all of your reels and tighten up the drag system on them star drag or otherwise. lock them down. gently rinse them with water from the top down for spinning reels and all the way around for the baitcasters. next up soap em up and wash em just fill a bucket with soapy water and wipe down the reels and the rods with a soapy rag. then rinse them gently again to remove the soap and water. dry them off and then when you store them for the night release the drags this will allow any remaining water inside the reel to drain and keep rust from forming. the soap removes any outer salt on the reels. really you shouldnt have to worry about the salt too much the water should be leaning more to the fresh side of things
