I would put a post in the N.C. section.  I could tell you how we catch them in SW FLA, but I think there is enough distance between us that it is probably apples and oranges.

Down here go to lures are:  gold spoons, redfish magic spinners, mirrodines, gulp shrimp or jerkshad, fresh cut bait on the bottom.

Try doing a web search with ' redfishing North Carolina'  and along those lines.

first off im in va were not much different sae kinda tactics different environment. get yourself some redfish magic lures or saltwater assin spinner baits. definitely bring some gulp. it wouldnt hurt to bring circle hooks and be ready to use some live mullet. . this is all in terms of backwater action. mirrolures are also a top use. surf wise bottom rigs wiht fish finders or threeways will work great

Get some #5 circle hooks and shrimp.. when they are hitting they will hit pretty much anything.. If they aren't biting you won't catch anything at all.. but shrimp on the bottom is your best bet..

Lures are by far the greatest challenge and most rewarding(to me). However, if you're looking to just catch fish, then most definitely go with LIVE finger mullet. Let us know how your trip went & good fishing to you.

Hard to beat a jig & gulp shrimp ! For the lazy man, a Carolina rig, a circle hook & cut mullet fished on the bottom.

Becareful of "Jigging" and baging a redfish in the NE and NW regions of florida becuase it is Illegal. Otherwise Gulp works well near Shoals and Islands.

Might be a lil late but its usefull info.  When fishing for Drum aka redfish down south Finger mullet is what alot of people use.  Now I target the bigger Drum and have caught them on everything from finger mullet to eels.  But my go to bait is spot heads.  I have caught up to 6 Drum in one outting off of spot heads, with the smallest being 44"'s .  This is my all time fav species of fish to catch so I do target them alot as thats what im doing this afternoon. ne wind with a low just moved in should have them reds hungry.
