We used to use an old icebox buried in the ground. Fill it about 3/4 full of paper & a good worm bedding. The idea is to use layers of each. After a while it will all be mixed together. Buy a few dozen worms or catch em in your yard if your lucky like me. Put the worms in and let em multiply. We used to put scraps from vegtables and used coffee grounds in for food. Plus about once a month turn the dirt with a pitchfork. We used to get about 50 dozen worms out of the box a year. When winter came we put several crushed cardboard boxes over the top of the dirt and covered it up till spring. After the icebox rotted in the ground I could find Crawlers in my yard all summer just by watering the grass. I moved to Illinois and got lucky my neighbors yard has Crawlers we catch by the coffee can full when we need em. They used to sell them for 50 cents a dozen. Then after a while I went to get some & she told me to catch em anytime I wanted some. Only rule is let them know before hand so they know who's crawling around thier yard in the middle of the night.

All I can hear in my head right now is the character on Dumb and Dumber when Lloyd and Harry are talking about what they are going to do:

"I say we stay here, we both get jobs, and save up for the Worm farm". God that is funny stuff.

we used a old bathtub @ my meemaws as kids, or just dumped are old wormes in a mulch pile to find um later.

in my yard if i drive a stake in the ground and tap the sides, it brings tons of worms up some as big as small snakes, if the worms don't cum up they might be to deep in the winter but if you keep bang'n the stake they should keep cum'n up and eventuly be easy pik'ns....what not to do, i put 1/4 cup of bleach in my kids pool this summer to keep it clean and algea free, i had the pool full for a while and even added more water but when i dumped it i had a worm hollicost....millons of worms came up in a split secound and most died, i never knew so many worms could be in such a small area i was in aww for awhile...I won't kill my dirty friends like that again....

the info from CF Hall looks good....
