Here's how I do it for some models of jigs when I want flair. I use breast hair (white). I cut thin strips of hide on the clean leather side, leaving hair naturally attached. Slice it very thin and only about 1/4" long. I use 3 pieces. Look at the hair grain. Aim the hair "lay" to the nose. That way the hair will work against the water and flare out, bending back. I glue the leather side on a pointed jig head, the long dimension aligned along the length of the head. Each butts against where the hook comes out. Then take some Kevlar thread and wrap each end of the strips together, hook end first, then the nose end. Use Super Glue to seal the wraps down.
I'm curing a piece of breast hide. Sometime this winter I'll post a photo of it if you need that, when I make some up.
You can dye the hair any color using worm dye, but I prefer the natural white.
