I had a ton of the old lures taht I had been collecting for over 50 years...way too many types & brands to try & remember now and a lot you guys never knew existed. But without anyone but myself giving a hoot about them, I donated the whole shebang to the The Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame Museum in Hayward Wi. They have two large displays of my old stuff for people to see. Anyone in that area really needs to stop in & see what they have in the museum, you'll be drooling when you leave.
I could just see my wife selling my stuff at a garage sale if something ever happened to me, now it's where it should be.

That,s really great Badger. I think that is a fine thing you did so other,s can enjoy a little about fishing history. You and I both know you could of made a ton of money but now millions will see your collection.
I will hold on to mine and keep collecting. My grandkid is on the way and it,s a boy and if he doesn,t take a interest in fishing and has a interest in the fishing lures I have I will do the same as you. And I,m heading up to the Fishing Hall Of Fame this spring and will enjoy seeing you lures.

Hard to say at this time If I could make the LaCross meet. It would be fun if I could since I have friends in Sparta also. Right now I filling out the watercraft form for the Fishing Has No Boundaries event here on the Big Chip in May. I'm volunteering myself and my boat again and take a disabled person fishing for 3 days.

It's quite an experience Dave. To see the participants and the troubles they have makes all of mine seem sooooo small. If you or anyone else in the club ever get a chance to participate in an event...do it. You will come away with a different outlook on life. As messed up as some of those people are, you could not imagine the joy they have of just catching a fish...any fish any size or to be out on a lake. To them, there all record breakers.. Some of them wait all year for the opportunity to come back, and it the only chance they have to get out. If everyone had the attitude of those folks it sure would be a better world to live in. They never quit or give up on themselves!! Inspiring.

It would be nice if there was more awareness in the club, and members actively particpated in the name of the North American Fishing Club.
That would really be awesome.

I have the box for a Weber "SN2" Spinning Lure. NO lure, just the box. It looks pretty old, and while a little dirty, it's in pretty good shape. I don't collect antique stuff and thought someone else might be interested in this. I don't really want anything for it, so if anyone has a use for it let me know and I'll send it to you.

Alright hold the laughing down to a quiet roar, I started working on my first wooden lure.
I think it is going to grow up and be a popper.
It started life as an extension handle for a paint roller and has evolved into something that looks like a fish. once I figure out how to post pictures again then I'll post the start to finish shots.

I wouldn,t laugh. James Heddon was waiting for a fishing companion by a pond in Dowagiac Michigan so while he waited he decided to whittle on a piece of wood which grew smaller and smaller. He tossed it into the water and saw a huge splash as a large bass attacked the piece of wood. He knew he was on to something and the idea for top water lures was born.
That happened in 1898 and James Heddon had the most successful companies in fishing history that still exists under the Pradco/Heddon name!!!

Speaking of starting lures by accident.. Eeker<!--graemlin::eek:-->

Dare Devil spoons started that way. This is how I understand how it got started.

A guy had an old Silver spoon from his wife's drawer full of Silverware down on a dock one day, and he accidently dropped it in the water.

A Northern Pike darted after the spoon as the sinking action made it fluttered to the bottom.

Seeing this the guy went back and "purloined" another Silver spoon. This time he cut off the handle and drilled two holes one for tying his line to, the other he had attached a treble hook to it somehow.

He tossed the spoon like lure out in the area the other had gone down, and a Northern Pike attacked it just like the sinking spoon before.

Believing that the shape of the Silver spoon made the lure attractive and flutter around like fish had never seen before, the new lure, "Dare Devil" was born. Wink<!--graemlin:;)-->

I'm happy to report that this thing swims like a fish, hey did I make a funny ? Anyway I made it to be like a popper and it makes the best little popping sound and swims nice and true. I painted it gloss gold , with a peach belly., and a blood red mouth. It has googly eyes and blood red hooks. My wife named it, are you ready for this ? GOLDIE SPAWN . Now I'm addicted to lure making and will make some more.
As I said as soon as I figure out how to post pics I will.

SSCASTEEL: You got me excited just talking about it. Hope you have a good time and you have a good man to help you. From talking to Dave, he is very informed about fishing items. I have two of the Paw Paw frogs in the junior size # 74s in the boxes.
Just a reminder, fishing catalogs are bringing big bucks. Heddon, South Bend, Creek Chub Bait Co. catalogs in the 1930s are selling anywhere in the $200.00 to $300.00 range. I just bought a Heddon Delux 1939 cat. for $139.00. I guess what I,m trying to say is don,t just give your items away. You have some fine tackle that any collector would want to have in his collection.
Let us know how you do!!!! Wish I was there!!

Hi all...I got some of my pics developed of the Kansas City Hunt & Fish Collectables Show...

ANd will post them over in Members Photos later this evening.

There was a LOT of Creek Chub stuff there...I'd say that at LEAST 60% of the collectable plugs for sale were Creek Chub Eeker<!--graemlin::eek:-->

But several guys had regular / usabe lures for sale too...even a pair of guys that MAKE their own cranks Big Grin<!--graemlin::D-->

Thanks for the compliment Mike Wink<!--graemlin:;)--> but you got me by a LONG ways as far as knowledge of collecting Cool<!--graemlin::cool:-->

Stay tuned Wink<!--graemlin:;)-->
