Dang Mike....what happened to your post??? As far as Creek Chub goes though...I have read that they would make just about any paint pattern you wanted if you ordered (I believe) a minimum of 12 baits. Life Member David BB Linkmeister

Dave: Just don't know what happened to my last post but you as well as I know crazy things have been happening here!!! Creek Chub as you stated did take special orders for special paint jobs. And if you are referring to the Darters Pete was going to by that were in mint condition I would say they were "Repaints" not identified as repaints. The reason I say this is they were in mint condition, not a nick on them, hardware from talking to Pete didn't look original @ the paint was so bright, not like the paint they used on originals. The other thing is if the person who had these never used these lures in mint condition I feel if they were originals they wouldn't of thru the original boxes they came in away. If they were special order lures they would of came in there boxes and the person would of kept them in there boxes. I have seen many repaints at shows, on E-Bay and I know of a few companies that repaint lures for a price. If they weren't repaints just buy handeling them there would be a nick or scratch on them not being in there boxes. When I am in doubt I don't buy the item. |

This is the Heddon # 8550 King Basser circa. 1940s in White/Red Head. It has 2T slip line tie hooks and is 5" long. It is 1 1/10th oz. and has Teddy Bear glass eyes and is made of wood. Has a metal lip inside and says Heddon Dowagiac. Heddon made some excellent lures. |

I hear ya Mike...the only thing that repaints are good for is for making a cool in-home / workplace fishing display. For some reason....I can't view your pic of the Basser {sad face} But now that I look at it....it's too large (47007) I think. thier it is...LOL hey i think i found a big glitch or a big reason why this is so slow, if you reply to a post with tons of pix in it, it takes for ever to load up, I think it is do to all the pix that load under the reply in one straight line, or one page of all the pages and pix? does this happen when you reply too? how long does it take to load for you on this topic when you hit "reply"? man try scrolling down the hole topic too? i think this will makes good long topics of things we like have less posted post, cuz the person will not wait so long for it to load and they will forgit what they had to say? MAYBE?possible? it could happen? also if you follow a link posted by another member to another page on here you are not logged in in the next link or tab so your post will not post unless you relog in on that link or back trak to the original logged in page and go to the topic from thier....? sorry, the page loaded and i for got what i was goin too say...LOL, and then i had to gripe about somethin `cents i waited that long....dang thing.... |

That's a nice Darter. I like the silver flash color, which I have quite a few in the #700 Pikie lure. Your starting to get a nice collection of Darters I see. I also been noticing on E-Bay the price of old lures are sure going up in price. I guess it's like everything else !!!!!!! Mike |

Mike, tell me about the prices going up! I think someone told all the sellers that I was collecting...lolol! This was awaiting me when I returned from my latest fishing trip: This Darter is in mint condition. The box that came with it is also mint and the correct one! I will post it later. Mike, this Darter has glass eyes... Here is the box:

This is my newest addition. Another con cave belly darter in silver flash. I know I already have one of these but this one has glass eyes! It is in mint condition. And this is the box it came in...I believe it is incorrect for this lure! But it is a mint box! I think I am getting a much bigger collection of the Con Cave Belly Darter than I expected...My main collection is of the Creek Darter...I will post my collection as a group in the near future. This first group is my Creek Chub Creek Darter collection: This second group is my Creek Chub Concave Belly Darter collection: The two on the left (second group) are the glass eye and single belly hook. The yellow one in the top pic is glass eye. I am laughing at myself...I started out seeking only the Creek Darter! LM since 2005

When we think of Heddon lures of the past we think of the wooden ones and the plastics. Heddon also made some metal lures that were great to fish with and were very popular in there time. One such lure was the "King Stanley". It was weedless, made of metal and first came out in the 1930s. It was 4 5/8" long. They made the "Ace", Queen, Silver King, @ Devil King. I bought this one in 1984. The other lure pictured is a Heddon Stanley Weedless Hook. It is the # 2 made in 1931. It was used with pork rinds and live bait. The length was 3 3/8" and the name Heddon Stanley on it. It is in mint condition and was my dads. |

Mike, those are some very interesting lures. I have never seen anything like those! I have a couple of Heddon spoons I'll post as soon as I get back from the 2008 lake Champlain / George member meet! BTW, There was a comon Creek Darter that went for $127.00 yesterday! Prices are going up everywhere! LM since 2005 Bushwacker Deputy Sherif |

Thought I'd post some more interesting metal lures of the past. The first one is a "Frog Wiggler # 11 made by the Al Foss Tackle Co of Cleveland Ohio. It has a patent date on the lure of 1918 and his name on the bottom. The lure itself didn't come available untill 1926. They did have buck tails on them and a rare find would be one with a green frog on the tail. It is in my collection in EX condition. The other is a Al Foss "Little Egypt made in 1920. It has red glass eyes and the date of 1920 on the blade. It is 1 7/8" long and the blades were called on this one Ponca Blades. The earliest ones had colorado blades and the top of the lure opens up. This one is also in my collection which was in my dads collection. |

I know there are alot of people out there that collect lures. If you have lures that you can't identify or want to know about don't be afraid to post a picture of them here and I would be more than happy to help you out if I can. I ran into a guy selling fishing lures last month in a barn, elderly man and was selling a lure in the original box and didn;t have a clue what it was and was in excellent condition. He was selling it for $10.00. I told him he didn't want to sell this lure for $10.00. He asked why, which I replyed it is a Heddon Dowagiac # 150 in green Crackleback in excellect condition and box which was worth $400.00 + with the box. He was amazed and I told him I didn't have the heart to buy it at that price. His son came out and had a computor and I told him to go on E-Bay and post it there if he want's to sell it. I gave him my E-Mail address and said he would let me know when he does but I know he will get top dollar there for that lure. The lure was made in 1920 and a fine lure at that!!! Post some of your lures you might have one that is a collector item. |

The Heddon Sculpin and the Sounder were new and added to the 1981 catalog. They were listed in the 1983 catalog also, the one befor Pradco took over the company. After Pradco took over, the popular flutter spoons remained in the 1984 (copy write 1983) catalog with additional colors added. As best as I can determine, these flutter spoons remained in production thru 2001. I personally have many and the colors and designs range the spectrum of offerings. Perhaps Mike can add / correct to this post. LM since 2005 Bushwacker Deputy Sherif |

No corrections needed!! Great post. The only thing I can add is the sounder came in 3 models. Model # 702, 703, 704 in 7 different colors in each model. The Sculpin came in 3 different models also with each having 7 different colors. The Model # 712, 713, and 714. They were all considered flutter spoons. All the information is correct in last post. I will add very overlooked lures and very hard to find in good condition. |
