It has been a while since I've added to this collection. I have found it more difficult and expensive to aquire individual lures, or should I say the harder to find ones. Here is a new addition to my Creek Chub Creek Darter collection (2000 series). I think this is a perch pattern, 2001. I have yet to check it against a cataloge (sp). This lure is not mint but in very good condition. LM since 2005 Bushwacker Deputy Sherif |

In this album of mine there's several pics of collectible things I will have for sale on Ebay in the near future. I have 2 main groups....one is mostly wood from the mid 60's and before, and the other is mainly plastic from the 70's until recent (say Risto Raps for example). http://s206.photobucket.com/albums/...ollection/ Pics do NOT show ALL that I have though! Hi Dave: The lures you have really look in good shape. Some of the lures I saw are selling on E-Bay for $40.00 or more especially the Crazy Crawlers you have. The South Bend lures will bring you some nice money also. I will look out for them. Good luck to you!!! Mike |

turnip wrote: Mike, I have come across two Creek Chub, concave Belly Darters in questionable colors. Neither colors are on any "regular" manufacturers color chart. I have no idea if they are "special order" or "special run" colors. This first one was labled "goldfish"... The second one is labled "blackbird". This one, in Creekspeak, states this is the most frequently airbrushed because it is easy to do. It is recommended to leave it alone unless you know the reputation of the dealer (seller) to be highly recommended. Mike, I have received a new Creek Chub book and both these patterns are in it. The author states they are special order colors. The info on the book is: Collertor's Encyclopedia of Creek Chub Lures & Collectibles identification & values second edition by: Harold E. Smith, M.D. It is the best book I have found to date... LM since 2005 Bushwacker Deputy Sherif |

That is a great book and I have had it awhile. It really makes it alot easier to identfy the lures and see the colors they made up close. To me all the collector books are great resources. Mike |

This is my "Creek Chub Creek Darter collection. The lures are pined to a page of "Field & Stream", 1942 advertisement. This has been a lot of fun and also frustrating! I now need to get another shadow box for my Concave Belly Darters... LM since 2005 Bushwacker Deputy Sherif |

This lure by far is the best of my humble Storm collection. I've been told that this lure was the 1st they made. It's called a Glop!

We talked before a little bit about fakes and lure repaints. Here's another kind of thing to watch out for. This guy claims to have an original magazine ad for Arbogast Mud Bugs from 1946 http://www.stevesvintageads.com/viewitem.php?ref=scannell&pd=275014 HOWEVER....the Mud Bug didn't even come out until 1968... http://www.arbogastlures.com/lurehistory.htm He claims to sell on Ebay as user stevescannell but when I did a search for him....he hadn't sold on there since 2006 Life Member David BB Linkmeister

There's many lures that the Arbogast company has put out over the years that are highly collectible.
One of them is the Jitterbug. According to the company's 50th Anniversary History booklet, the Jitterbug was 1st brought out on the market in 1938.
And they are still made today.
Probably THE most important thing about collecting is being able to identify lures as to their approximate vintage, and Jitterbugs are especially true of this fact.
Here's one auction that is getting ready to close on Ebay today that isn't right. The lure box dates to the 1950's...maybe late 1940's too.
The paint job on the lure dates to around the early 1990's.

If you were to start on this catalog page for Arbogast 1941...and work your way through the colors on this website over the years shown, you will see just how many times the "perch" pattern has changed over the years.
http://nflcc.org/CPG/thumbnails.php...=14&page=2
That said, there are other ways to also identify / date Jitterbugs. First off, the earliest Jitterbugs had no "stamped" name on them, and the metal lips don't have patent #'s on them. At some point in the mid-1940's Arbogast started stamping them as "Jitterbug".
The next major change was the patent numbers on the metal lips...mid to late 1950's I believe.
Hook hardware changed many times in the early years. This website has ome good info about colors...and if you scroll down on the page...some excellent info on hardware.

Very nice, mo! This is why we started this thread. And if you notice this is the second issue! (2) One of these days I'll have to update my collection(s) pics. This is just a small part of what was lost / burried in the Forums since the 2007 change....Soooo much was lost, the newer members really have no idea how much was lost... |

Cool psg...post up some pics...I love to see what other guys have! This old stuff is a blast to tinker around with. Toss one in the water sometime, you'll see why they call them classics. These old lures still catch lots of fish! Do you guys like Heddon River Runts? Here is my collection...no where near complete...Heddon made these guys in a passel of sizes and colors. Some of the more rare colors bring big bucks, but most are priced well within the "still fishable" range. Give one a try! |

Thanks turnip...and yes psg...getting pics on here can be a challenge. After lots of trial and error, and several different techniques, I have found that using photobucket is by far the easiest. Once you get your account set up and your pics loaded...its a piece of cake! One click and they're on. Here is an old musky lure I picked up recently. Its a C.C.Roberts Mud Puppy...looks like a few teeth have chewed on this old gal. It is an interesting design in that the lure body breaks away after a strike, the theory being that the fish won't have the weight of the lure for leverage. Then the angler is supposed to retrieve the floating lure body. What if you fish on a river? better get that musky in quick...before your lure body floats away! Seems like overkill to me, but these babies were very popular musky lures, and are still to this day. The last I heard is they are still being made. Saw one of these on eBay yesterday in mint condition for $185! |
