I need to see your pics, mo! I will tell you that the lip design on the Amber Flash for the Pikie is completely different. Your lure is of a newer version. The pic is in my book: Collector's Encyclopedia of Creek Chub Lures & Collectables by Harold E. Smith, M.D.. The book that is listed above and this one a great resources (my go to books). I am going to research a few other books that may help us out! |

The pics are there now...I see what you mean by the flecks, they look silver on my screen! So far I can find no evidence of your info for that lure...I'll keep looking. Although, the time period that this was made was a time when Creek Chub held-off on special orders because of production issues...But hey, who could refuse a politician? lol! |

Welp, the pics are gone again...Someone must be working on the site...I can't edit anything or use the "quote", it just locks up the puter...and folks wonder why the old timers have left! |

The lip I am talking about is called a "Surfster lip", a heavy duty lip that was used for saltwater and freshwater big game fish, using the improved lip, heavy hooks and thru-wire construction... |

This improved lip, heavy hooks and thru-wire construction started in 1936 and continued until 1978... |

Correct turnip...the Amber Flash didn't...this Gold Flash is the only one I've seen that does. Yellow flash, blue flash, silver flash, they're all like the amber...no glitter around the eyes.

I did some checking on colors and this might be of interest to you... #21 Day-N-Nite Looks just like Silver Flash until you turn out the lights and see this bait glow! The underlying white is actually the same luminous paint as #17 plain luminous. It was first made in 1927, the same year Silver Flash was first offered. After a name change to Nite-Glo in 1937, it was available until 1954. In 1931 a Silver Flash Injuref Minnow (#1518) cost $1.00. The Day-N-Nite cost a little more at $1.10. The price discrepancy continued through 1947. #1521 Injured Minnow and #721 Pikie were the only catalog offerings of this color.Day-N-Nite often has a yellowish tint in the older offerings . My old man cracks me up...went to the auction yesterday without me. I wanted to watch the NASCAR race and keep an eye on the Classic, so I stayed home. He comes in later with this whole boxful of stuff he got for 2 bucks. A nice cast iron skillet, some leghold traps, and a few other odds and ends. He digs way down in it and says "Hey, here's an old junk lure you can have!" Sheesh...old dude cracks me up! This is actually a pretty nice old Creek Chub Injured Minnow, good find pop. Like '151 says, "I'm as happy as a clam!" |
