Here is a little info about your lures, mo! #1600 Baby Injured Minnow The history of the Injured Baby Minnow very closely parallels the #1500, begining in 1924 and stopping production in 1960, replaced by a new plastic version. The plastic Baby Injured Minnows were very successful, making the return of a wooden model unnecessary, The Baby is a full inch shorter than the #1500, with two hooks instead of three. Double hooks were commonly used instead of trebles. The earliest models were flatter than the more common shape we see today. It was always pictured with double hooks in the catalog. No luminous colors were available on the Baby Crip. The Baby Injured Minnow was not pictured in catalogs after 1954. In the plastic baits, purple was a featured color on this bait in the catalog from 1968 to 1973, described as "deep purple" and "translucent." #1600 - Pikie - 1950-1978 #1601 - Perch - 1925-1978 #1602 - White/Red - 1925-1978 #1603 - Silver Shiner - 1925-1964 #1604 - Golden Shiner - 1925-1964 #1605 - Dace - 1923-1978 #1613 - Black - 1957-1959 & 1967-1978 #1614 - Yellow Spotted - 1950-1954 #1618 - Silver Flash - 1926-1978 #1619 - Frog - 1950-1978 #1621 - Day-N-Nite - 1950-1954 #1624 - Redwing Blackbird - 1941-1954 #1625 - White Scale - 1941-1954 #1631 - Rainbow Fire - 1950-1954 #1632 - Fire Plug - 1950-1954 #1633 - Black Scale - 1960-1964 #1638 - Pearl - 1955-1958 Plastic colors: 00, 01, 02, 03, 05, 09, 11, 13, 18, 19,33 Trying to identify Shur-Strike from the main line Injured Minnows can be a little tough. Colors are the only reliable differentiation since the Baby Injured Minnow had two hooks on both models. #700 Pikie
The famous Pikie Minnow was the most successful creation of Creek Chub Bait Company, becoming one of the most successful fish catchers ever made. It was copied extensively by other companies and made in many sizes by Creek Chub. Earliest examples have washer hardware, double line ties and hand-painted gill marks. Until 1939, the double line tie was pictured in the catalog, but it was not used much after 1935 on this lure. There were more colors offered on the #700 Pikies than any other CCBCO lure. In 1922 six colors were available. The more limited production colors were Mullet 1950-1956 (through 1978 on Deep Divers and Saltwater Pikies); Black 1960-1961 and 1967-1973; Black Scale 1953-1956; and Yellow Flash 1957-1960. Several colors were limited in years they were available on any lures, but when they were available, they were offered on the Pikie. These rare colors include Day-N-Nite or Nite-Glo, Blue Head and White, Black with White Head, Rainbow Fire, Fire Plug, White with Red Eye, Mackerel, Amber, Fluorescent Red and Chrome. Several other variations of the #700 Pikie were made. You could get one with a deep diving lip from 1950-1978. Pikies were made in plastic from 1955 to 1978, but not advertized in the catalog until 1960. Many photo finish plastic baits were made at the Garrett plant in the last few months of 1978 and the first few months of 1979 under the new management of the Lazy Ike Corporation. First produced in 1920, last advertized in 1978. Length = 4 1/2" and weighed in at 3/4 oz.

These are my first Pikies for my collection:

You'll notice that they all have the extra line tie. I will attempt to stick with that throughout my Pikie collection...

#2600 Jointed Pikie
The #700 Pikie was known as the Famous Pikie Minnow. The #2600 Jointed Pikie was equally as famous as the straight model. It didn't come in as many colors, but it came very close. Earlier examples can be identified by the paint patterns and double line ties. Collectors have been fascinated when they find lures with the eye of the double line tie under the chin. Catalogs from 1927 to 1938 actually picture the lure that way. When lures are found, very few have this configuration in spite of the catalog picture. Color pattern availability was very similar to the #700. 2600 - Pikie - 1926 - 1978 2600-R - Red Pickerel - 1931 - 1951 2600-Y - Yellow Pickerel - 1931 - 1951 2601 - Perch - 1926 - 1978 2602 - White / Red - 1926 - 1978 2603 - Silver Shiner - 1927 - 1978 2604 - Golden Shiner - 1926 - 1964 2607 - Mullet - 1950 - 1964 2608 - Rainbow - 1926 - 1954 & 1959 - 1964 2613 - Black - 1957 - 1959 & 1967 - 1978 2618 - Silver Flash - 1926 - 1978 2619 - Frog - 1959 - 1964 2630 - Orange W/ Black Spots - 1952 - 1961 2631 - Rainbowfire - 1950 - 1954 2632 - Fire Plug - 1950 - 1954 2633 - Black Scale - 1952 - 1956, 1960 - 1965, 1967 - 1978 2634 - Blue Flash - 1965 - 1978 Noticing the years for Black and Frog, one can know that standard production of these colors was in tack eyed form. The deep diving lip was available on the #2600 from 1950 to 1978. Plastics came along in 1960 and continued through 1978. Chrome is found only on the plastic variety. Pickerel Pikies were made from 1931 to 1951. The numbers of the red and yellow tail lures are roughly the equivalent. First produced: 1926 Last Advertized: 1978 Weight: 3/4 oz Length: 4 1/2" Plastic Colors: 00, 01, 02, 03, 18, 34, 40 All information came from the "Collector's Encyclopedia of Creek Chub," Lures & Collectables by Harold E. Smith, M.D. and "CreekSpeak", Quickdate CCBCo Original Series & Color Register. |

Congrats turnip on getting into collecting Pikies...they are one of my favorites! If you change your mind about the double line tie(they are tougher to find), I have a #900 and two #700's in my trading stock...bet you have a few Darters in your stock. Here's a pic of my #900 Baby Pikie with the double line tie. |

#2700 Jointed Baby Pikie
The Jointed Baby Pikie was a very successful lure for nearly fifty years. There are some early ones with the double line ties. The original colors were 00, 01, 02, 04, 08 and 18. This was the standard fare until Silver Shiner was added in 1950 - 1959; Rainbow Fire and Fire Plug 1951 - 1953; Orange with Black Spots 1952 - 1959; and Black Scale 1953 - 1956. Pickerel Pikies were made in this smaller size from 1934 - 1954. The deep diving lip was offered on the #2600 from 1950 to 1978 on both wood and plastic models. Like the #900 Straight Baby Pikie, production of wood varieties ceased in 1963. 2700 - Pikie - 1927 - 1978 2700-R - Red Pickerel - 1933 - 1954 2700-Y - Yellow Pickerel - 1933 - 1954 2701 - Perch - Perch - 1927 - 1978 2702 - White / Red - 1927 - 1978 2703 - Silver Shiner - 1950 - 1978 2704 - Golden Shiner - 1927 - 1964 2708 - Rainbow - 1927 - 1954 & 1959 - 1964 2713 - Black - 1957 - 1959 2718 - Silver Flash - 1927 - 1978 2719 - Frog - 1959 - 1964 2730 - Orange W/Black Spots - 1952 - 1961 2731 - Rainbow Fire - 1950 - 1954 2732 - Fire Plug - 1950 - 1954 2733 - Black Scale - 1952 - 1956 & 1960 - 1978 ** #2600 Jointed Pikie was the largest numbered series offered in a CCBCo flier marked "New Casting Bait Lures For 1926." Therefore, I believe 1927 was the first year for the #2700 series. First Produced: 1927 Last Advertised: 1963 (Wood), 1978 (Plastic) Length: 3 1/2" Weight: 1/2 oz. Plastic Colors: 00, 01, 02, 03, 05, 18, 33, 40, FR |

#4200 Jointed Midget Pikie
The jointed cousin of the #2200 (Midget Pikie) appeared 10 later. Earlier models have a little more pointed nose than the later examples. The original colors were 00, 01, 02, 04, 08 and 18. In 1950 Rainbow Fire, Fire Plug and all Black were added. The fire lacquers, as in all lures, were gone after 1953. Black Scale was available only in 1956 and Frog in 1960 and possibably 1961. All Black had a much shorter run with the Jointed Midget Pikie than with the #2200 Midget Pikie. Frog was never offered on the #2200. The Jointed Midget Pikie was a standard CCBCo offering for 27 years. It was not in the 1962 catalog, replaced by an ever growing number of wooden and plastic spinning lures. The Jointed Midget Pikie was never made in plastic. 4200 - Pikie - 1933 - 1961 4201 - Perch - 1933 - 1961 4202 - Whit / Red - 1933 - 1961 4203 - Silver Shiner - 1950 - 1961 4204 - Golden Shiner - 1933 - 1961 4208 - Rainbow - 1933 - 1954 4213 - Black - 1950 - 1954 & 1957 - 1959 4218 - Silver Flash - 1933 - 1961 4219 - Frog - 1959 - 1960 4231 - Rainbow Fire - 1950 - 1954 4232 - Fire Plug - 1950 - 1954 4233 - Black Scale - 1955 - 1956 & 1960 - 1961 First Produced: 1934 Last Advertized: 1961 Length: 2 3/4" Weight: 1/4 oz. All information for this entry and the one above has been taken from the "Collector's Encyclopedia of Creek Chub" Lures & Collectables, Harold E. Smith, M.D. and "CreekSpeak", Quickdate CCBCo Original Series & Color Register. |

#900 Baby Pikie
This old lure stood the test of time. Although only made in plastic after 1963, it was produced from 1921 until the factory closed in 1978. The color selection was not as vast as the #700, but there was still a big variety available to the fisherman. Many special order colors were ordered over the years. The appeal of this bait decreased in the 50s, 60s and 70s as more smaller lures were added to the CCBCo catalog. 900 - Pikie - 1921 - 1978 901 - Perch - 1921 - 1978 902 - White / Red - 1921 - 1978 903 - Silver Shiner - 1929 - 1978 904 - Golden Shiner - 1921 - 1964 908 - Rainbow - 1923 - 1964 913 - Black - 1957 - 1959 & 1967 - 1978 918 - Silver Flash - 1926 - 1978 930 - Orange W/Black Spots - 1952 - 1961 931 - Rainbow Fire - 1950 - 1954 932 - Fire Plug - 1950 - 1954 933 - Black Scale - 1952 - 1956 & 1960 - 1978 First Produced: 1921 Last Advertized: 1963 (Wood), 1978 (Plastic) Length: 3 1/4" Weight: 1/2 oz. Colors: 00, 01, 02, 03, 04, 08, 18 Plastic only colors: 07, 13, 33, 34, FR, 39, 40 |

Many additional colors were added to the list of available colors, mostly special order colors as they became popular. These are all original series catalog baits & catalog colors. The numbering is based on a revised system adopted by CCBCo in 1925. Mant baits & colors were made before this date. The catalog codes for colors are often different in the 1916 - 1924 price lists but have been converted in this study for the purposes of clarity.
Many lures were shown in Creek Chub catalogs for a few years after 1945, but were marked in the catalogs as "not available." Some returned to production and some didn't.
#13 Black is listed in the 1960 catalog but an attached catalog flyer states that any series offering a #13 Black will instead be sent a #33 Black Scale! Sometimes, a color is listed for a certain series in a CCBCo Pocket Catalog, but never shown in the full size catalogs. It could be a Pocket Catalog entry error or a mid-year color addition that was scrapped before the next full size catalog was printed.
The information for the above post came from the "Collector's Encyclopedia of Creek Chub" Lures & Collectibles by Harold E. Smith, M.D. and "CreekSpeak" QuikDate CCBCo Original Series & Color Register.
It has been fun starting this collection and reading about the history of the company. I plan to continue collecting and I will post my new additions as I get them! |

Well, I don't know what happened to my pics in the above posts...Since the "edit" function doesn't work like it did in the past, I can't fix it...geez! This is my first Injured Minnow. It is in rough shape but at least I have one for the box, the correct box and I paid very little. I can up-grade at another time! |
