Heddon Copies:
I just picked Heddon Bait @ Tackle Co. because there my favorite company who made lures and many other things.Heddon was the leader in plastics from 1930s untill there sale to EBSCO in 1983.Millsite of Howell Mich.gave Heddon alot of competition.
Once the Japanese started producing lures for such companies as Herter, sit was easy to produce lures that looked like Heddon. And they would do it before Heddon could get an injunction to stop production. Atlantic @ Herter,s are the most famous coppiers.
Herters copied Heddons River Runts which sale for $20.00.The Revelation was made in Japan and looked like the River Runt.Abu copied the Hi-Lo. Japan also makes the Tiny Lucky 13s,China also made Lucky 13s.China also copied the Heddon Sonics and called it the DI-36. The Supersonic was copied by Atlantic Lures.South Bend copied the Optic and other companies did the same.
The thing to learn here if you are a collector is know what your buying. Always look for the Heddon name and make sure it isn,t stamped Japan, China, Herters. It,s best to know your hardware because most of these companies used cheap hardware, know your eye shades and colors, paint jobs, and shapes. And watch out for Repaints.

Yea I picked up the reel I've been hunting pieces for. It works great just needed the cosmetic pieces. Now I don;t need them, because I made the ones I needed, form aluminum and wood. Going to paint the pieces and mount on a rod and put it in the truck. Any time ya'll are looking for something, let me know what and max price, and I can look at the farmers flea market down here. There is always an abundance of fishing stuff there.

In this day and time there are what I call the big 6 companies in the biggest demand across America.
(1)Heddon
(2)Creek Chub Bait Co.
(3)South Bend
(4)Pflueger
(5)Shakespeare
(6)Paw Paw
They also are the companies with the highest prices. As a collector of lures I will not go broke for a lure I really want and can't afford and I suggest for you to do the same. I also can't stress enough the inportance of condition of the lures you may buy. You may think you have a nice lure but if there is alot of age cracks, chips, paint loss, poor color or parts missing, this really brings this lures value down.
I have been collecting the Bombers from 1947-1948 and there heavy duty bombers and no eye bombers from the Bomber Bait Co. because they are a great buy and becomming very collectable.
Don,t forget about the smaller companies like Bear Creek, Buckeye Baits, Burke, Pico,@ Bagley's, Cotton Cordell, Poe's Super cedar lures, Rebel lures of Pradco, Storm Lures @ Smithwick lures are a few. If you are a collector you are tending to keep them for some time. All these I have mentioned are going up in price and are becomming very collectable. The last thing I'll say if your not having fun doing it, don,t!!!!

What will make THAT difficult guyz is that Rapala went BACK to the original molds for several Storm lures this year, including Wiggle Warts, Hot-n-Tots and Rogues.

Too many fisherman stopped buying those baits after Rapala started using NEW molds...and changing the materials used to make them.

I just thought I would mention thinks to look for and know when you go to antique shops and you see a lure you want. In the past few years I have learned that antique dealers know what they are selling.
They have the books but one thing they do forget about is the condition the lure is in. I have had many dealers when I would ask if they would lower the price on a lure because of the condition and there reply would be no. They go by the price they find in there books and stick with it not being aware of the lures in the book are for lures in mint condition in there original boxes.
The best thing for any collector and it doesn't matter what you collect is know what you are collecting. A little research will give you information on the year it was made, who made it, what it was made of but condition, you are the one that has to judge the item. You may have a lure made in the 1920s that is worth $300.00 but the condition of it is missing paint, chips, crazing, cracked glass eyes,or someone changed the hardware and the lure has just dropped in price to 1/3rd the value. So in all do your research and always be aware of "Condition".
