Another slow day here...was digging through the archives again...found this. Suppose no one told him that the Jitterbug was the original "toss it out and drag it back" lure? |

I love Jitterbugs and Hula Poppers. I have a bunch of them, different colors, jointed, solid. I replace the Hula Popper skirts with jig skirts. Better action. I also have an old Creme Mad Dad, a Jitterbug imitation. Like Rebel Pop-Rs too.

Mo, I heard you say the other day that the jitterbug is a throw and crank bait and I wanted to let you know that this is news to me too! I have a boat load of them, never caught a thing with them, but I have been using the slow cranking method...Thanks Bro! Same for the hula poppers! I must say tho that I have good luck using the poppers in a slow deliberate retrieve, allowing the lure to make a sound and create a ripple in the water, pausing and doing it over again. The Rebel pop-rs are and have always been hot for me. |

Turnip...those Jitterbugs will really shine if fished early in the morning or right at dusk. Yeah...like we were talking about in the chatroom...just a slow, steady retrieve. When I was a kid, I fished 'em in the dead of night...totally dark. Stood there listening...plop, plop, plop, plop...waiting to hear that SMASH! Now, fishing in total darkness is a good way to end up in the drink! Guess I'm getting old... |

Also we lost the replies to some of these old topics on the server changes. So it just looks like there's no replies. Then again, love the noisey surface plopping of the jitterbug. |

Hey, dsaavedra. How's things? I'll tell you, I am thoroughly in love with the Jitterbug! I don't even care if the thing catches fish... I'd use it just to watch that bad boy at work! I have caught quite a few with them, though. 3 ways to retrieve it: steady retrieve; stop-n-go; and fish it like a popper. |

I always thought the Hula Popper made a much better "popper" than the Jitterbug. If you're not pulling a Jitterbug steadily back you're missing out on that characteristic gurgle that made them famous.

The Jitterbug doesn't really pop when fished like a popper. It just sort of hop and push water on the surface. I suppose there's no other way to describe it. The gurgle retrieve and pause. LOL. |
