This is not a particularly old lure but one I can no longer find. Back in the late 80s I used to fish on trout streams with a spinner that I really thought was productive on big browns. It was a blue fox wisper. This was similar to the vibrax at least the barrel part on the shaft. the one difference was that it had a willowleaf blade instead of the oval one on the vibrax. my favorite was in gold or nickel in a #5. It put out a ton of flash but the vibration was less that a vibrax of same size. cast upstream into a nice looking hole and worked back just fast enough to keep the blade turning good was a killer. I have looked on ebay and at the blue fox website and emailed them but have not received a response. Some of their offerings in their european catalog's look similar. If anybody knows what I am talking about or have used these in the past I would like to know.

Thanks David.  Thats the one! I forgot about the texture on the blade. since they are no longer being produced I need to search and test similar lures to see If there is something I like. Of course I may just run into a new favorite.

Thanks

Brian

Thanks Dave,I did find them in there 2005 catalog just today but not on there website. I made him a few wooden lures that are similiar But with the hole up through the head makes the nose weak and I'm affraid that if it hits any rocks on the cast it might break.I'll be searching for any for sale in case he wants to buy any.

You're welcome Brian & Sam

@ Brian....the blade on there is what EYE call a "rounded willow"....you will find the similar SHAPE of blade on Worden's Rooster Tails...Luhr Jensen Shyster...and the Renosky Swiss Swings. I've never seen "diamond-type" blades that Blue Fox used on those Whisper's ANYWHERE else...not even as knock-offs at Jann's or Stamina

@Sam....I don't know how big the hole was that you had drilled through the lures...nor the placement of the hole....but I would have been inclined to drip a little clear fingernail polish OR some Super-Glue down into there

Repala rattlin fat raps - I still have a blue gill and cat fish looking ones but only use them rarely since I fear loosing them.  I have had great luck on both of them.

Also the Repala steel silver spoon they made in the mid to late 90's (sorry don't recall the official name).  I lost this lure a year ago and miss it greatly - I had caught a 21" Bass on it and it was just a great lure for going through the weeds.

Both the Rattlin' Fat Raps and the Rapala Minnow Spoons can still be found...both on Ebay and the 'Net.

Here's a tackle shop I found that has both....a little pricey though...

A little steep but the spoon may be worth it for me.  That thing was super weedless and heavy enough to get it way out.

My favorite forTrout on rivers in Oregon, has always been the Doc Shelton! I grew up using this on the Trask, Nestucca, and Siletz and is "the one to use!" I can't find them ANYWHWERE!!! You can lose count of all the fish you catch on these! Last year I even hooked into 2 fresh from the ocean Steelhead! Quite the thrill! I like the biggest one they make, half silver, half gold, not sure of the blade size, but it's got a distinct shape that makes them what they are. Basically a trolling lure with a small leader and a piece of bait(worm or egg) trailing behind! IF ANYONE KNOWS WHERE TO GET THESE, PLEASE, PLEASE, LET ME KNOW!!!!!

Speaking in defense of Rapala.  Most of us have caught plenty of bass on the floating versions and for a lot of us old timers it was the first lure we caught our first big bass on other than a black plastic worm.  I had gotten away from that model for no known reason to myself.  I think they are made just as good as ever.  I've been in the habit for a long time of adding a little red or orange here and there--even added weight to the rear to make it sit upright in the water.  My hat is off to them!
This Spring I tried the X-Rap in several sizes but the XRAP 10 has become one of my favorites.  I have caught fish on each color but my favorite has been the blue.  I've caught three over ten pounds and my young teen friend caught his first ten pounder and is hooked for life.  I can't describe the look on his face and the sound in his voice when she exploded out of the water on her first try to throw the lure.  But the greatest joy was in my heart when he eased her gently back in to catch another day.  I'm not sure but I think Rapala is doing a great job to meet our needs.  It is hard to stay on top but they are mighty close for me.  Wish you great fishing and pass the spark on to another!  Uncle Tom
I built my own lure company as a young man--thus the name UncleTomsJigs. It grew so well I decided to give it up and go fishing with family, friends and especially grand children. I became disabled as a United Methodist Pastor IN 2002 and retired here in Coastal Georgia on a 10 acre lake where I continue to fish despite my disabilities. My wonderful wife and I enjoy fishing together. God has blessed us in so many ways and we pray the same for you. I am excited about having so many new friends all over this great country.

My favorite no longer made lures were Injun Joe's Frog and Polish Polliwog By Injun Joe Bait Co. of West Hazleton, PA. OK, Joe never made it national with these baits but they really caught Largemouth in PA. The first time I threw a Polish Polliwog was at Lily Lake. I tossed it into the weeds at an incoming tributary and triggered the big ker-sploosh of a musky. I set the hook hard and fell flat on my back side. That musky cut the line so fast I never even felt the pop of the line. On my way home, I stopped at the bait shop and bought 5 more. Unfortunately Joe passed in the 1980's and those lures are gone for good.

This was the MOST obscure lure post in here to date Jack. I just spent the last 30 minutes doing varous searches on Google for MANY different combinations of the info you provided

I tried Googling too but found nothing. I went to high school with Joe's daughter and ran into her at a reunion about 10 years ago. She told me that after he retired, he worked hard to get his business off the ground but it never developed more than a local following. He tried unsuccessfully to sell his ideas to some of the big boys but nothing materialized. But it was funny that there was a very similar frog put on the market by one of those big boys a year or two after Joe died.

Such is life,
Jack

Hmm...I'll have to think about this one for a while...there are so many.

I was on a fishing trip in Canada when I tried out a Risto Rap I had. I don't remember when or where I bought it but I pulled it out of my tackle to go deep cause my cousin was catching fish deep with a lip less crank bait. I caught a few fish with it and was happy. Sometime after I read the RR had been discontinued. While talking with my cousin over the phone I mentioned the news about the RRs. He told me he had six of them and since he remembered I had done well with them he told me he'd give me all six of them. On my next visit to his place he gave me 3 NIB Risto Raps. I figured he may have decided to keep 3 for himself so I let it go at that. What the heck, 3 RRs for free, can't beat that. The bad thing is now I can't find the original RR I used and caught fish with. I don't know if I lost it or if it buried in one of my unused tackle boxes. They are buried in my little work shop and have not managed to get motivated to dig them out to look for my missing RR. All three RRs my cousin gave me have the Normark label on it without the tab to hang them up and the bills have "Ireland" stamped on them.

I forgot to mention that the RR rap I am missing had red, gold and silver and I think the belly was white. The 3 RRs my cousin gave me did not have size number or colors on the box. One is Green with black top with white belly. The second one has a light brown top with tannish/yellow, red gill plate and white belly. The last RR looks like it has shad coloring, black top, grayish/black scales, red gill plate and white belly. All three are Deep Runners.
