This is my Creek Chub Creek Darter collection.  It has taken me a little over a year to put this together!

I thought I would start this new topic because it takes so long to bring it up.  I hope you will enjoy and participate in this interesting topic!

HI, Pete you have those Darters set up real nice. I havent really started in on collecting but I do have one older Rapala 5S that,s still in it,s paper box, says Ireland on the lip. Most likely not a collectible but I,m keepin it unused cause it looks old.

When you have time show us a pic of another set. I am going to have to figure out a brand and style and start putting a set together. Thanx for sharing

Thanks guys!  I have added several more to this collection...I guess I'll have to up date the pic.  Does anyone else have a collection going that they would like to share with the rest of us?

Here's an old Heddon I found in the scrap pile...dates to pre-1915...so at roughly 100 years old...not in too bad of shape

The first picture in this thread is an early collection of the Creek Chub Darter.  As I had promised above, this is an up dated picture of my collection:

    The Creek Chub 2000 Darter

    First Produced:  1924
    Last Advertized:  1978
    Length:  33/4"
    Weight:  1/2 oz.
    Colors: 00 (frog 1923 - 1932), 00 (pikie 1936 - 1978), 01 (perch 1950 - 1978), 02 (white with red head 1923 - 1954 & 1957 - 1978), 09 (shad 1960 - 1962), 13 (black 1957 - 1959), 14 (yellow spotted 1923 - 1978), 17 (coachdog 1962), 19 (frog 1933 - 1978), 31 (rainbow fire 1950 - 1954), 32 (fire plug 1950 - 1954), 33 (black scale 1955 - 1956 & 1960 - 1964), 38 (pearl 1955 - 1958)

Of the eighteen new casting and fly rod baits introduced in 1924, the Darter along with the Injured Minnows (#1500 & #1600) would last until the company closed in 1978.  Like the Injured Minnow, it was widely copied.  Originally called the Creek Darter, it was later known simply as the Darter or the Two Thousand, which was the ordering number.
Early colors were Frog (listed as 00 from 1924 to 1932), White with Red Head and Yellow Spotted.  Many consider Yellow Spotted to be a recent color because of its popularity in the "70s, but it was first used on the Darter in 1924.  Silver Flash was added in 1927, Pikie Scale in 1939, Perch in 1950 and Black in 1960.  These colors were used most years through 1978.  Some colors were used for limited periods of time including Black Body with Nite-Glow Head (1935 - 1938) and the others as noted above.  There are many special and unusual colors found on Darters, making this bait very popular with Creek Chub color collectors.
This lure is what started me on my adventure with lure collecting!  Some of the patterns appear to be identical but they are very different.  The Frog pattern did not show well in the picture and there is some camera flash.  The text for this post was taken from: "Collector's Encyclopedia of Creek Chub", lures & collectables, second edition by Harold E. Smith, M.D.

Wow, what a cool idea. Never thought of collecting old lures, let alone putting them on display to boot!

I might have to look into that. How did/do you get started? Just start getting lures at garage sales, resale
shops, etc? Guess I should have gotten all my dad's old lures when I could.

Thanks again for alerting me to this aspect of the hobby.

    Tight lines,
