Back in the summer of '74 I had a summer job at an outdoor camp that catered mostly to the State Mental Hospital. It was right on the lake...and I got to use the boats and such in my off hours.

Since I was making good money....and fishing was easy, I decided to build up my collection of tackle...which meant I needed a bigger tacklebox

So anyway...I went to the local tackle shop....and checked out what was available. After checking on my fund allocation, I chose a 3 tray Old Pal box.

I got back to camp...and proceeded to transfer some of my stuff and some NEW stuff into the box, after which I put the box into the trunk of the car.

Trunk of a BLACK car...and the next 2 days were almost 90*

The 3rd day later had cooled off...and so I decided that I'd dig out my tackle and do some fishing after work.

Here's what the box then looked like

Money well spent, huh? Lol. I had about thirty dollars of worms and other soft plastics melt with the plastic pages of a binder. Not a good feeling seeing that sort of thing.

If there are 10 million fishermen in the US, 5 mil of them have had this happen to them at some time to some degree. The other 5 mil have never caught anything over 5".LOL Tom

Hot cars will do a number to your tackle and to your box.  Take it out of the car and boat. You should treat your equipment like your own little buddy and it will then be there for your lifetime and maybe even your childrens
I am here to pass the knowledge that was taught to me. Theres nothing worse than a selfish outdoorsman.

I bought the same tackelbox when I was a teenager in 1965 when I lived in Florida. I just replaced it @ 6 years ago.The inside looked better than yours, not melted but still pretty bad. The exterior was pretty rusty. The hinges rusted right off the box.       Happy fishing.

Hot cars can and WILL do a number on a box. So will the sun on certain hardshell boxes in your boat. I have a couple that I've reached down and touched after 4 hrs in the boat...and they were HOT.

If you have one of those "hot boxes".....throw a white towel over it.

    It DOES make a difference.

A wet white towel works even better, and don't ask where to get the water from. Tom

Better yet, if ya have storage bins on your boat put your tackle in them and leave the box in your truck!
