I showed up to the lake one time with a tackle box full of everything known to man. My buddy brought 1 rooster tail. He whooped my butt. |

You say buying lures is an addiction like it is a bad thing! I have one bag that is full of plastics, worms, grubs, crawbugs, anything that catches my eye at the time! I also have a large tackle box full of crank baits, topwaters and every other type of lure. I don't go to Wal Mart looking for lures anymore, I have a better selection than they do! Yes, I will always collect different baits. I am in a late stage of denial. I am not addicted, I just like to collect them!

Speaking of Walmart, I agree: I have a much better selection of lures than they do and better quality reels as well! I actually think their problem is: Is that their buyer hasn't had much experience fishing. I have 100's of lures that are still in the packages from 30 years ago and still buying more! Think I'm addicted? I do fish considerably; but I'm slow to try something new (that doesn't mean I don't have it). I usually stick with what I've had previous success with; which is not always the best solution. |

I used to smoke at least a pack a day. I quit 3 yrs ago and now spend the money on tackle. It seems to be a lot healthier than smoking! Tom Fishin' fool in NE Illinois |

Buying lures is definitely not what I would consider a bad addiction. There are WAY worse things you could have an addiction to. You could be a meth addict or crack addict, and spend all your money on your drugs and not care about anything but those drugs. I think thats wonderful you quit smoking Tom. Spending money on lures is definitely better than buying a pack of cigs. Lures aren't going to kill you. |

Hello fellow lifers. I was reading the posts on buying lures being addictive and had a few smiles and chuckles over it. I am sure many of the old timers will remember an episode of "I Love Lucy", where she would hide new clothes in the closet and let them sit in the closet for a few months. When she would wear the new dress for the first time her husband, Ricky Ricardo, would ask Lucy if she was wearing a new dress and they could not afford it. Lucy would reply, "This old thing, this has been sitting in the closet for months." My former wife would give me the same answer whenever I'd ask her about a new dress or skirt. I told her that I knew that routine by heart. Now, whenever I'd buy a new rod, reel or other fishing gear she'd have a fit and tell me I didn't need more lures, rods and reels, especially since I never caught any fish. I'd buy new fishing gear and hide it in closet, office or in garage during the winter waiting for the Spring thaw and the first day of Trout Season. I'd bring out my new gear and my wife would spot it right away. She ask me if I had bought new gear and I'd reply, "This old thing? It's been sitting in the garage, closet, etc. for months." My wife would look at me and smile. She knew I was giving her a taste of her own medicine. I had a Plano tackle box on law-away at the Base Exchange and was ready to make the last payment and pick up my new box. My wife told me not to buy any more fishing gear. "Yes Dear" and went my merry way. I picked up my new tackle box and was in the parking lot heading for my car when lo and behold who do I run smack into? It was none other than my wife. She looked at my box, nodded her head and continued towards the Base Exchange. I knew she was going in for some serious shopping. Since joining some of the different bbs I have started taking inventory of my tackle boxes and soft sided tackle bags. I have 7 tackle bags and 8 tackle boxes. Bass Pro Shops has a new cream colored tackle bag that I've had my eye on. I think I'll get it the next time I visit BPS. I spend a lot of time trying to organize my lures and tackle in the most efficient manner but once I get out to the park everything goes to heck and organization goes out the window. I have better luck when I am out on a boat. Go figure. Last week I was at Sports Authority store and I came across the clearance rack. On both ends of the rack were orange placards with big black letters announcing, 50% off rod and real combos. I was leery and took 2 different rod up to the check out counter and asked if the rods were half off? One was listed at $54.00 and the other rod was $39.97 The cashier told me only items ending in .97cents were half off. I paid 20 bucks for one rod and full freight for the $54.00 rod. The reduced priced rod was a Shimano CF-SP CarboMax Graphite Rod 6'6", Medium Power and Fast Action. It has Hyperloop Construction with 9 Fuji guides, cork handles, pistol grip and hook holder. The second rod is a spinning rod by Shimano. It is also a CarboMax Graphite rod, CMS 7', 7 Fuji guides, Medium Power, Fast Action and hook holder. The best part of the shopping trip was that they had a large clearance section of Rapala lures. $9 an $10.00 Rapalas were going for $3.90, $4.90 and $5.90. I bought about 20 new Rapalas. Tonight I went to my neighborhood Sports Authority store and made a beeline to the clearance rack and spent 2 hours sorting through various lures and taking all the Rapalas and Bill Lewis Original Rat-L-Traps I could find. I went to the check out counter and asked if there were scanners that customers could use to check prices. The cashier said no and I had to go through her. I had 20 Rapalas and 5 Rat-L-Traps. None of them were reduced priced. I had just wasted 2 hours for nothing. I told the cashier I did not want the lures except for 1 Rapal and a SmithWicks Devels Horse. I was upset but polite. Such is life. I knew there was a reason why I had not shopped in a Sports Authority store in over 10 years. I will continue to hunt for bargains where ever possible. Thanks for providing a venue to vent. Tight lines to one and all ___________________________________________________________________________ B.A.S.S. Life Member over 25 years. Just when I thought I had everything I wanted, Rappala introduced the trolls to series of lures. I'm going to have to check these out in person, I'm a die hard troller(6 of my 20 or so combos are trolling rigs) and can't pass up a lure designed for trolling if it looks good to me.
