Use what ever color YOU have confidence in.

I like to use plastics in clear water and I use Crankbaits, Spinnerbaits and Bladebaits in stained or muddy water.

I like to use natural patterns but there are plenty more factors to catching fish then color.

Sure...the best color? Depends on what minute it is...LOL! Seriously, the best color changes with the conditions(light, wind, water clarity, etc.). Maybe get one of those color selectors.

At some point and time every color in the spectrum could be the right color but to simplify things

Try to match the colors of natural pray for the water you are fishing and think of how the natural bait would look in the water .
Example sunny  clear water would be a bright flash  like chrome  and silvers .
gin stained water may be bronze or gold  tones
Then add some florescent for coffee stained water like chart or fire tiger , hot pink this could just be florescent high lights not necessarily solid

But as mentioned some times  the hot color  may be  one that stands out from the norm .
example  florescent s  on bright sunny days in clear water

Take a kid fishing , If the fish aint biting entertain them. Photobucket

How about water depths? There was an article in our club mag a few years ago about how the fish see or don't see at different depths...I think Erabbit posted some info on that...
