Before the rains hit a week ago the Thresher Shark fishing was good off of Newport Beach from a boat. Shark pier fishing is usually limited to Banjo's, Shovelnose, Smoothhound, Pinbacks and an occasional Soupfin or Leopard Shark. And of course Sting Rays and Bat Rays. A 30lb rig with a 100lb leader and a fillet of Mackeral or a whole Squid for bait. Pretty much any pier up and down the coast you can get bit, but right now the water is very cloudy and most likely unproductive due to all the rain.
