I would greatly enjoy info on raising different kinds of baits at home for panfish, especially bluegill. Any kind would be great!

Gee, all I know about is nightcrawlers and maggots, but, I buy both and keep them in the veggie drawers in the bottom of the frig, where it's coldest, and they seem to do fine there for awhile, I add coffee grounds to the worm containers if I need to, and the maggots, I just wait until they croak, usually about a month and then just go buy more.

I have been keeping nightcrawlers in buss bedding in a styrofoam cooler placed on the basement floor. I lightly dust the top of the bedding with corn meal every 2-3 days to feed them (don't over feed or it will go moldy).
I started to keep/raise('cause they are multiplying) redworms (both regular and jumbo ones)in a covered 5 gallon pail with a cover with very small holes drilled in the top. They are in buss bedding with some coffee grounds and I dust the top of the bedding again with corn meal. I mix some new coffee grounds in with the bedding every 4-6 weeks. Both the crawlers and redworms are very plump and lively and doing great. Aways remove and dead ones you find on the top of the bedding immediately.

    Walleye and Panfish,
What is the safe temp range? I don,t have a basement and my wife would freak if I put bait in the fridge. I have a shed but it gets HOT here in the summer.

I don't raise red wigglers but I have read that they cannot be put in cold temps. They must stay at room temp.

You might get away with the shed if you use an old cooler to raise em in. We used to build a worm bed in the yard. Bury a broken refrigerator or freezer. fill it about 1/2 full of bedding and dirt and 6 dozen crawlers. We'd have crawlers all year. Ya can't bury friges any more so maybe the cooler. Just like Walleye said get the dead ones out as soon as you see them. Coffee grounds and some salad once in a while will make them nice and juicy. We even experimented with adding fish attractant to the grounds. It works but if you use to much the worms won't survive.
