Well i like ta use a good ole hook and bobber for pannies.Bluegill i like to use a small icefishin jig tipped with a waxworm under a real small icefishin bobber, for me it seems to work better.I use 4-6 pound test for crappies, gills, sunfish, redear, etc.lighter line with a small bobber and jig seems to cast better with a ultralight rod and reel. For crappies use da same ice jig but a tad bigger and a tad bigger bobber tipped with a live minnow. No sinkers just hook and line.If ya have no ice fishin jigs use da smallest jighead ya can find.Under da smallest bobber ya can find.Lighter always works better for me with panfish.Don`t know if ya can still find em er not but berkley makes er use ta make a bait called a berkley power wiggler which works real well too.You can use these techniechs just as well with a plain ole small hook and small bobber.Da jighead or icefishin jig just adds a bit more action.Plain hook size i would no bigger the a size 8 with bluegill i like useing a size 10 but if ya dont want to pull out alot alot of swallowed hooks i would go with a size 8.With crappies i would a size 8 or a 6 for a plain hook. Jighead i would use a 1/16th 1/8th or 1/32 if ya can find em same with da icefishin jig. Most common smallest jighead around here in ohio is 1/16th that i`ve seen but they do go smaller. At a major fishin store.which i have seen at the major fishin stores around here. But i get alot of my stuff at wal-mart.Hope this helps, If ya have anymore questions just ask!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you got a john boat and a couple of ultra light rods (cane poles work too) troll tiny cranks and curly tails. when you catch a crappie stop and fish w/ ultralight jigs or minnows. |

when I go fishing for pan fishing, im usually fishing for bluegill. I have had the best success fishing off the bank. I simply use a bobber, a tiny hook (on acount of bluegills hav small mouths) and a night crawler. I throw it out about 10-15 feet. It also helps to fish off an dock or somwere with cover. Last weekend I went to the same spot where iv cought tons of bluegill and didnt get a bite because it was cold out. From what Iv learned from experience, they come out fren its warm. And one more thing, there is no such thing as an "alone bluegill". Where theres 1, theres lk 10 more with it so if u get a bite in one spot, keep trying there until youre sure that the group has mooved. |
