Berkley Maggots. I use the pink variety, and I have been catching at least 30 bluegill in a couple hours. I hook them with no weight and let them start to sink. I used to tie on a small spinner, but this method is outproducing a spinner 10-1. If you havn't tried these yet, you should. They are great. Just thought I would share a great bait. Lifer! Fred NKy |

I just picked up 2 packs of them, they were on sale at Gander Mountian this weekend, so I figured I'd give them a shot. The 2 I picked up though werent pink, they were a white and a beige color. Gonna give them a shot this weekend. |

Hey Fred, used to use maggots when my kids where young. They sure are great fun not only for Bluegills but the Crappie will destroy they. (it don't matter if the horse is blind.Just load the cart anyway!... John Madden Hall of Fame Coach)

I use dehydrated grub worms sold as bird food, I order it online it comes in a 1/2 pound bag for around $25.00. All you do is soak them in hot water before you head to your favorite spot.

Hey bassbum, I use those to and they work really well, except I buy the natural color( the tanish/white ones). They are a little pricey but they work really well |

Has anyone tried the grubs? They are about double the size of the maggots. I'm going to pick some up my next time out. Lifer! Fred NKy |

What size hook are you using for the maggots and are you just putting one on at a time? |

I have a jar of the Maggots, never found them particularly effective in the water I fish. I probbably should try the larger size grubs as Gulp Alive has worked well for me in a variety of situations.

Use the smallest hook you have. One on the hook will keep for at least three fish.(usually more) Dave D wrote: What size hook are you using for the maggots and are you just putting one on at a time? Lifer! Fred NKy |

Buy the small jar of maggots or waxies. Buy some freeze dried natural ones and put those in the jar. it works. The artificials don't work as well here. |

This may sound weird, but I've tried this trick in three bodies of water(so it should work for you), two private ponds, and a public lake. But bacon and Vienna sausages work really well. I've caught some lunker gills on Bacon(me and my brother both caught one over 2 lbs on bacon). Just buy a cheap pack of bacon(or vienna sausage) and give it a try. Tell me how you like it if anyone tries it. Just put it on a split shot rig. |
