Great job! It's good to get them started early. I've got a 2 and 3 year old. He looks to be around that age. Thanks for sharing.

You do realize that when you start them at 2 by 12 they're out fishing you, right?

All kidding aside, it's great to see youngsters fishing. Thought I'd get your pictures posted for ya.

There is a program called "Hooked on fishing, not drugs" While it is basically an innercity program, the philosiphy is valid anywhere, a kid busy fishing doesn't need drugs. Take a kid fishing! Tom

I grew up in the city. We didn't have a local pond to fish. We had the Ohio river. Which Kentucky owns 95% of it. More community ponds would have kept a lot of my friends out of prison. A program is great as long as they educate people. Most are BS!

The Chicago Park District sponsors a program to get inner city kids out fishing. They wisely let volunteers run the program and just support it. In Chicago, if a city agency gets involved, you can be sure some political hack will figure out a way to line their pockets. Sad but true. The city is blessed with not only the Lake Michigan shoreline and the Chicago river, but also many neighborhood ponds and lagoons. It's nice to see kids out using these opportunities. I should be fishing with one of the neighborhood kids (my boys are in their 30's and the grandson is still a bit young) but got rained out this morning. Maybe this afternoon! Tom

I remember when I was a kid they had a program about fishing. It was so unorganized we never even made it to the water. My nephew is part of a fishing club that a teacher at his school started. He loves it, and it seems like it is catching on. I think right now they have around 20 members.

Fred: How old is your nephew? Illinois just recognised bass fishing as a sanctioned H.S. sport and held the first ever State H.S. Bass tourney. I'm going to say they drew almost 200 teams statewide! Most schools treat it as a club activity rather than a school sponsored athletic team, and yes it is co-ed. Tom

I think he is 12? Thats bad(I cant remember how old he is).  Hopefully more schools will add a fishing program. I think it would help more kids stay connected to there school.

One of my granddaughters turns 10 on the 28th this month. I'm taking her fishing on the 27th. I'm giving her her own fishing rod and tackle box for her birthday.. She is SO looking forward to this. None of the other 4 grandkids could care less, or their parents. Don't know how little Sarah got the fishing and hunting bug but she really wants to do both.
