Never tried marshmallows, I have always had my best luck with spikes and waxworms. Tom

i use mostly small dry flies and nymphs in sizes 12 or smaller but a peace of worm works just as well if not better

I've always had luck with Gulp Maggots. Pink color has worked best, but natural color works as well. Those are the only two colors I have used.

Gulp Alive Angle Worms, and the maggots work very well if you don't have time to get a tube of crickets ( natural color works best for me).

If you are talking about crappie nibbles which look like little marsh mellows, I have caught a lot of bluegills using them. I will add one to my hook when the fishing is slow and sometime it seems to help. I mostly fish with meal worms on a float or on bottom and catch a lot of good blue gills. Also I will fish a pop eye jig or dry fly on a float tipped with a meal worm  and have a lot of luck.

I'm really getting excited about spring. I really enjoy bluegill, and I will be sinking nine Christmas trees around my pond to create some more fishing spots. I'm hoping this year I can get another 2 lb plus gill, and maybe a bigger one!!!

What I have noticed about bigger bluegill is that they typically like slightly deeper water( like most larger fish of any species), and like any normal big fish, like to stuff there faces. I will usually cut a nightcrawler in half and cast around cover in deeper water (about 7-12 ft). Not only am I where the fish are, I have bait that is too big for the dinks too take, so I up my chance of a bigger gill ( also, the same applies with artificial bait. Using a little more seems to entice bigger fish).
