Personally, first pick would be walleye, but crappie, definitely. Last spring father-in-law and I caught about 50 crappie on Brookville Res (Liberty, IN) between Easter & Memorial Day. Cleaned and filleted all of them, and put them in freezer. He passed away in July before we had a chance to fix all of them so there are still a lot left. This spring when it warms up we're having a family fish fry in his honor. |

White Bass are definately more fun to catch. As far as eating goes, I soak my white bass fillets in ice water for a couple days ( change the ice water the second day ). I've had people swear they were eating crappie. Dave D. Oklahoma member since 2003 |

I've never eaten white bass (cause I've never caught one ) but if there's anyone out there that thinks the bass is better - then they should give me their crappie to eat |

Ive never eaten white bass, but for the table you can have black bass unless they come from really cold water. I'll spend my time fishing perch, crappie and walleye. Tom Fishin' fool in NE Illinois |

That is a no brainer for me. hands down would be for crappie. I usually throw the white bass back or give them away. I think the redish meat is alittle fishy. Some people like a strong tasting fish though, like catfish. I go for the milder tasting fish like yellow perch, bluegills, crappie and smaller walleye. |

My family and I have had a great start to this white bass spawning season. They taste great! I can't tell the difference between the two when eaten. Try mixing up a bowl of both fish and serving them to your family... see if anyone can REALLY tell the difference. A little red meat don't bother me any.

Take the red meat out of white bass and there's no differance . So I guess it's a tie. Black bass is ok, But catfish is second best (if you can get them in cooler water). |
