first like to say there are several postings through out this forum on lures to use on pike, i think the best one might be faverate pike lure way down on this thread.

with that said, any med. to big rapala's, x-raps or shad raps, color is determined by the food base with in a lake[idea of colors at the end of post]. in-line spinners and safety pin type spinners all work well. in-lines, want to be size 3 or bigger. for safety pin type any size is ok, but bigger is better. i have caught pike on little beatle spinns before. soft baits, any of the swim baits, big tubes, even slugg-go's have worked for me. i am still expermenting with soft plastics. in spoons the number one spoon is the tried and true dardevel.

the colors that will work on pike are: perch, firetiger, silver on blck, gold on blck, red and white, shad,
ok guys what other color is there.

now for your tackle, 6 1/2 ft. to 7 ft. med. action rod well work as an all perpuse rod. any good quelitty[sp] reel can work.
i have caught pike on ultra lite rods[5 ft. length], 9ft. noodle rods, med. lite 6 1/2 ft. rods. so you see the list can go on, find what you are comfurable with and enjoy.

Lures ain't the only thing that will catch those toothy critters. Live bait works well also. Large minnows, perch (where legal) work well. I usually fish with two rods one with live bait the other with a lure.

i was going to say then there is live bait and a lot of different type of rigs. if you can get your hands on some of the old in-fisherman mags. the have all kinds of rigs that do work and many of them are to be used as a quick strike rig, so your fish doesn't swallow the bait down their throat.

If you can find the book Pike an In Fisherman handbook of stategies it is loaded with pike info from tactics to an understanding of the fish itself. Here in Minnesota I like using twister tails, larger Rapalas, and spinner baits. Color will depend on your own specific lake.

On lake Champlain I have found that a 2" white twin tailed grub on a 1/16th chartruse with red eye jig works great in the spring. On lake seneca in the fall, an assortment of spoonbill minnows trolled along the weed line is the ticket. Wink<!--graemlin:;)-->

Mr. Bill got it right. Me personally, I throw baitcasting gear usually no shorter than 6'6"s and up to 8 ft. Line from 12-20 pounds and 18"s of steel to make sure they have to shake a hook in order to get away. Too many CT pikemen have told me to try Power Pro, I may get to it real soon for livebait fishing! Good luck fella, and careful with those hands. I got bit in September.

I USE POWER PRO LINE WITH A FLOUROCARBON LEADER. I MOSTLY USE BUCKTAILS AND BIG SPINNERBAITS LIKE THE ACE TANDEM ON MY CASTING ROD AND I KEEP A BIG SUCKER HANGING OFF THE SIDE OF THE BOAT ON A QUICK STRIKE RIG. TOPWATERS WORK WELL TOO. MY FAVORITE IS A RATCHET BUZZBAIT
