There is a well-known pattern when trolling for these beasts that I /several of us have known about for years.
It's common for trollers to put a bait in the prop wash 10-30 ft behind the boat and catch fish.
But something I saw earlier this evening makes me wonder a little bit.
Petroleum (like WD-40) masks human scent...and at the same time, many older motors leak etc...a little bit of the stuff...

So MAYBE the question is not so much of them looking in the prop wash for injured baitfish (does make sense though)...but more of a question that the bait doesn't have the "human scent" to it anymore.
Thoughts?
