Casting a Johnson Silver Spoon works great for pike at mid-day.

Use the silver one if it's sunny and the gold one if it's cloudy.

Target the edges of weed beds.

Attaching a white pork rind on it drives them nuts, but I've had a lot of pork rinds bitten right through that way.

Never tried the pork rind, good idea I'll give it a try.

Wells, get the white Uncle Josh Craw Frogs. They are the bomb on the hook of a big Silver Minnow, or the single hook Dardevle. The curve in the legs gives them great action on a swimming retrieve, and the lift/drop retrieve is a great trick along the deep weed edges. I like to trim a good deal of the fat off the whole thing, makes it more flexible all the way through, and pork rind will last through all the pike, muskie, or bass you could want in a day (as opposed to the double tail plastic grubs). Only real downside to using it I can think of is they're a mother to get back off a hook sometimes (toss it back in the jar, good to go for the next trip) unless you reduce the size of the hook barb with a file, which actually isn't such a bad thing.

I'll give it a try this summer. I do have a Johnson silver minnow and a daredevil or two. Thanks

Wow this is an old thread, where did you find this one Pete? It must be one of the last times Stonecrusher was on. He is one of the closest members to me that I know of. He knows his stuff when it comes to carp.

It's been around for some time now Frank. Seeing as it is getting close to spring time pike , I thought I would bring it back because there are probably some fisher folks out there that have this same question! I have brought up a few other pike / musky threads that are relevant to this time of year...I'm hoping that some folks will update these, bringing into account newer techniques and points of view.
