fly fishing for pike need help

    i want to try fly fishing for pike need to know what line , leader, lure etc. to use i never fly fished before i know how to cast and use a fly pole just dont know the different lines and stuff to use

    I take it that you are not yet a flyfisherman.There are several things that you need to consider.  Are you going to fish them early when they go shallow to spawn?  What are the normal size fish you catch in the area?  Are you going to be targeting the really big ones?  Fishing from a boat or shore?  Budget? 

    The bigger the fish the heavier the rod and flyline you need.  For a beginer I would suggest a floating weight forward line.  This will be easier to cast.  Any fly shop should have all the flies you need and a steel leader as well.  Once one of these toothy fish take a fly it is pretty much done for.  I think I would suggest a rod of either a 8 or 9 weight.  That should handle pike of any size, even musky are caught on fly rods.  Remember that you need just as much room behind you as in front for the backcast to straighten out.  I hope this helps.
