I was fishing in Lake Champlain with several other members and caught my first pike for the year...I am on a hunt for a 20#er!

The lure I was using is a Rebel Fastrac.  He hit it on the first cast!

I was using my lifer rod and reel with 10# mono and a 30# steel leader with a swivil at the line end.  Here fishie, fishie...  The water temp at the surface was 62* and I caught him as I drifted over a 8' to 15' ledge.

My goal is a 20#er, which would put it in the 42" range!  I'm a huntin'!

hey pete, just remember that the 20 plus pounder strike when ya least expect it.
i was figuring that yer 1st pike here was about 18 to 20 inches and depending on the lake and time of year that yer 20 plus pounder would have to be about 42 to 46 inches.
i have 2 24 pounders under my belt, 1 was 42 1/2" the other was 46". of coarse i haven't neted one close to that size in about 30yrs. my last one went 18lbs and i was walleye fishing about 5yrs ago.

good luck on this quest pete and have lots of fun going after them.
