you can  use either .  I prefer useing artaficals . some folks use bucktails with the run and gun aproach they cover alot of water fast .

I dont use live bait much . there is alot of info on the web  and video as well on musky fishing .
Im sure big sucker minows would work as well . Alot of folks shun the live bait  becuse  it can be a killer . If you go live bait  i recomend useing  a quik strike rig .

IF it moves whack it <))) especially if it's from Illinois

Great link, Trev!  Thanks for sharing.  I wonder, will using the technique of casting over rocky points or shoals in the fall, work for pike also?

I knew it worked for walleye, especially when the wind is churning up the water...Cool!

I never tried plugs so I can't be any help there. Live bait has netted me half the pike and musky  that I have caught. A quick strike rig is a must. Long pliers and the tool to keep there mouth open are important also. I use live perch the bigger the better. And Pete I even tried trolling with them in one of my recent trips and caught one musky and two large large mouths.  That reminds me. I'm suppose to get a pic of that lure for you Pete. I'll be right back.

You can see some of the marks that those toothy critters have put in this Rapala husky jerk. This one has a rattle in it I don't think the new one have a rattle in them. I have caught more musky on this lure than any other lure.

I only get to go muskie fishing once or twice a year so I'm no pro, but we use bucktails in the spring, summer and into fall, getting bigger as the year goes on.   In late Sept-Oct we use suckers with a quick set rig under large floats.  I have had my best luck with a jig & minnow while walleye fishing.    Jason

Not suprised that the muskie and pike come on a walleye rig. It has always worked for me!
