I am going on my first muskie trip the 1st week of Sept in the northern part of the lower pennisula in Michigan.  I have done some homework already, but I could use some tips on what lures to use on this clear lake.  Also, how I should be working the lures during this time of year.  Thanks.

Wow, fall is usually one of the best times to fish musky here in NY. The are after the large schools of bait fish to fatten up for winter. My question to you is, will you be trolling for the musky or not. If your trolling large wooden pikey or large swimbaits. The key for fall musky fishing is large. Some people do not like to use swimbaits on musky because they will destroy it. But give me a 40" plus musky and I will buy a new one. If your not going to troll use large live bait, no smaller than 8" and 10 or 12 would be better.

Depending on the water temps and the amount of boat traffic on the lake you may want to consider some night fishing.

    What lake is it?

Since it will be my first time really fishing for muskies, we'll probably try everything to land one.  For the live bait, do you use suckers or would bluegills work as well?  Do you use large bobbers for live bait, or would you use some sort of large jig?  Thanks.

several lakes in that part of michigan have some good muskie fishing, if ya give us which lake maybe we can give ya some pointers that might help.
yes in the fall bigger is better, big in length and profile. large swim baits, crank baits even spinners. a trick you might want to conceder since you can use 2 poles in mi. is to put a live sucker[a 10"-12" long] have it a little bit away from the boat and work the baits that you are casting back past the live bait. it might supprise ya how many muskie and big pike you will get on that minnow and you'll never have seen that fish.
