Will be at Black Lake NY, first week of July. Remember reading years ago about high speed trolling for pike in summer. Looking for any info. Thanks

Use a crank bait. Keep it in the propwash about ten feet behind the boat at 5 - 6 MPH. Works for pike and musky.

buck tails , crank baits, spoons

I have used rattle traps with good success

i would let out some line and get going  until the lure broke the surface .
Then i would slow down  just a bit tell it no longer broke the surface .
when a fish hits you will know it, the hit is hard and about jerks the rod out of your hand  so hold on to that rod .

gold and black  worked good as did silver black and silver blue ,
    and fire tiger

i troll at 4-6mph(fast walking pace) i remember an article in in-fiisherman saying they clocked pike hitting at speeds up to 30 mph(the fish themselves not the bait speed)

I'm fairly new at trolling and usually troll for pike at 3 mph or less. I'm not sure how deep black lake is but I don't think its real deep so that will limit the type of lures you can troll with.

Yes, I have read articles about high speed trolling for pike & musky...Just never tried it.  I am usually at 1.8 to 2.5 mph.

You should try it Pete. Just as I described above. It really works.

Hey Turnip do you think that fancy new trolling motor will push your boat that fast? My money is on the under, trolling motors aren't propped for speed! Tom

When I troll I use my gas motor.  This year I will try trolling with the new electric since it is strong.  This I will do while trolling for stripers, which is done slowly because of scaring the fish...

    Thanks for the tip, Ray!
