Hey, C@tfi$hin, how are you?
A wiper's a cross between a white bass & a striped bass. I haven't caught one personally, but from what I hear, they're fun to catch & good eating. I also hear that the same lures & baits for either whites or stripers should work for wipers. I have caught whites, & what works for them is just about anything that imitates a minnow. Silver blade baits like the Heddon Sonar (or a reasonable facsimile), black back-silver sides-white belly Rebel or Rapala jointed minnow baits, or a silver or brass plated spoon of your choice are all good. I've also had good fortune with both conventional and weight-forward in-line spinners. Covering the straight part of the hook shank of a weight-forward in-line, like the Erie Dearie, with a white Cubby Nail Tail seems to improve the catch rate, & using conventional in-lines, like a Mepp's, with hair tied to the hook seems to be more productive than the ones with plain hooks.
Tight lines.
If I'm not fishing, I'm thinking about it. Keep the line fresh, the hooks sharp, and have fun fishing. God bless you. -Sonny, Life Member since 2002
