Go to stripers247.com that should give you enough info. Where on the Hudson are you planning to fish. Don't forget you will need a Marine recreation license this year. Good luck.

I'm a rookie as well when it comes to stripers. I only went once last year and it was late. I tried to catch herring and was only able to get one for bait and lost it. I didn't use my downrigger. But I did talk to someone who does and he said to run the baits or lure 18' down in 30 fow 60' back. I would think the lure or bait being 60' back would ride up near the surface but what do I know. I've yet to try it.

I'm all over I don't really have a home port. I have to trailor the boat 1 1/2 hours to the nearest pond. But I hit the Hudson river, Mohawk river, Canadarago lake, St. Lawrence river, Seneca lake, Lake George, Lake Champlain. With the smaller boat I hit Lake Durant, Lewey Lake, Eighth Lake. This year I plan on giving Delta Lake , Cayuga Lake, and Maybe Cooperstown Lake a try. My wife and I like to camp and fish so we hit alot of the State campgrounds. I stay away from Sacandaga and the party crowd. Nothing pee's me off more than to have some jet ski buzzing me while I'm trying to fish. Canadarago gets pretty busy at times and I get off the water. I like fishing for Northerns and musky. But also catch my share of smallmouths, perch. The last few years have been catching Lake Trout and a few Landlocks

i have been to a few of those lakes in the past. ice fished canadarago this winter, nice perch. looking forward to ice off, here the eyes and muskie are a good time. mohawk gives up plenty of smallies. sacadaga is a stones throw from the house, if you hit it early or after dark its nice. i agree with about the lake traffic on some lakes .

If your not doing anything think about coming to the members meet at rogers rock on the upper end of Lake George in May.

The hudson river is heating up. They are catching herring and stripers all over the river in small numbers. But the numbers and size are increasing. I had planned to try it this morning and the rain last night and forecast for rain today changed my mind. I think I made a mistake now with snow in the forecast it might shut things down again. Today might just be the best day of the coming week.

I'm gonna give some of that GULP ALIVE a try this year...got a nice 24 pounder last year...I haven't been out yet, and am torn between stripers and turkey...hoping to maybe go Friday...I've been getting good results with bloodworms, and will try the Gulp bloodworms against the live...I do know if you hit a school right, the action gets fast and furious! Good luck

Let me know how the Gulp works. I have not had much luck with the Alive. I'm not talking when the bite is on and the fish will hit anything in the water, normal conditions when the bite is at best average. Tom

Well its begun. The striper run has started, the herring are all over the river. Reports are coming in up and down the river of stripers being caught. So far it is slow but it will only pick up as the days go on. Its not looking good for having alot of time to fish, but I hope to get out two or three times. If the weather permits I plan to pull the boat out of storage next weekend and with a little luck get out the weekend after.
