the best time of the year, in my opinion, for coho, steelhead, and whitefish is right now...04/01/any year southern lake michigan offers the best fishing of any of the great lakes. anywhere from michigan city, in to benton harbor/st. joseph, the fish are ready to be taken. my favorite spot is new buffalo, mi fishing the mouth of the galien river. catching limits of fish are not uncommon. just be ready to deal with heavy boat traffic and heavy angler action. just go out, use the regular techniques, and have a great time!
