Either right behind the head theres a "plate" and stick the hook in one end and bring it out the other.  Or you can hook em in the tail.  I hate hooking them.  I always where thick gloves so they dont bite me.

I catch em myself.  You go into a small brook or stream and get a screen or a net with very small holes in it.  place the screen or net pointing upstream and have somebody with you lif up rocks and the hellgramites will curl up into a ball and flow into the net.  Try going into shallow areas with a decent current.  enough so they can go into the net.

My wife got some netting at the fabric store and we made a net from an old badminton racket. It works great in catching lots of bugs in small streams and creeks. I just place the net down stream a few feet from some rocks and start turning them over....Wa la!!! lot's of buggy stuff for trout!
Fly Fishing is the art of attaching a fake bug to a line and relying on the appropriate manipulation of the rod to deceive the fish into eating a sharp steel hook covered with feathers and fur.

There's a real good chance that there are aquatic insects in the streams you fish.the fish naturally feed on hellgramites and other insect larvea, so if there are fish there's insects.Sometimes there just hard to spot if you don't know what your looking for.

OK, here's my ignorance showing again. What the hellsagramite? Now don't just tell me "it's a bug" cause that won't help. I'd like to know what I'd be looking for. I've heard of them before but don't have a clue... If I don't get an answer I can understand I'll have to 'Google it'!!
