I caught a few trout last year with Phoebes,Kastmasters,Thunderbolts and Thomas Buoyant Spoons but Only a few. What I was wondering is how to attach them to my line.Thomas Lures tells ya to attach them with a snap but should I use a snap w/ swivel or just a snap.

I was just tying directly to the hole in the Spoon but that always seems to cause line twist.I was also wondering if using a loop knot would be better like the article in the Feb issue of the Mag.(pg.19).They're tying to jigs but would it work on small casting spoons too.  My spoons are all 1/6 oz. and smaller and the Kastmasters have split rings

    Thanks for any suggestions

Snaps and snap swivels can make tying on and lure changing easier. Phoebe spoons came with snap swivels. Just remember that while changing lures is easier, you still have to stop and re-tie once in a while because the last few inches of your line can take a beating.

Sam: on the advice of a spoon fisher much more accomplished than I, I removed all the swivels, split rings etc from my spoons and now fish them either with a small Berkley snap (no swivel) or if twist is a problem I add a ball bearing swivel at the line end of a short leader. Most of my spoon fishing is of the trolling variety behind a planer, Dipsey Diver or downrigger. We don't tie direct because we change baits often until we find 'the spread'. Tom

I was thinking that as heavy as a spoon is, a snap wouldn't affect it's action I'm not a fan of snaps with or without swivels I've lost lures due to the snap spreading apart.I need to get the ones that hook back on themselves  Thanks Guys

Sam: The learning curve on snaps for me was short and steep. It didn't take me long to figure out that interlock snaps are fine for panfish and worthless after that! I use either crossloc or coastlock snaps exclusively, these are the ones that the wire hooks around itself. Tom

When I troll I always use a swivel.  I use a florocarbon leader (or metal) with a snap.
