I've only fished for trout in creeks and streams but this weekend I'm going to a lake with trout in it.  What can you use in a lake just spinners?  If i wanted to use night crawlers or salmon eggs would that be possible and how?  With a bobber?  Any input would be helpful.

When I fish for trout in lakes, in my boat, I straightline troll.  I use flutter spoons and jointed Rapalas with lake trolls.

Instead of the spoon as pictured above, I use jointed Rapalas, size J-5 to J-11.  I also use jointed Rebels of comparable sizes.  These I use for brown trout mostly.

When I am fishing for lake trout I am usually with Erabbit.  He uses downriggers and or led core.  If he sees this thread he will respond.  But if not just send him a PM and he will be more than glad to help you along.  Also walleyeking#1, walleyewayne and wellsley.  I hope this helps!

    Welcome to the Club Traseley!
I'm not the best fisherman let alone trout fisherman so take it with a grain of salt. I've had fair luck using crawlers under a float, knowing how deep the lake is. I try to suspend them just a bit above the bottom/weeds. I used the Wing-it bobbers I got from the club actually. I'm sure any sliding bobber you can find would work equally well. Just set the knot so you can put a couple split sinkers just above your swivel/clip. The whole theory is to have your worms at the top edge of the weeds. You can also use a bullet weight above your clip and a leader long enough so your worm will float at the top of the weeds. If you can, inflate the worm so it's buoyant, or some like to add a floating bait such as marshmallows. There are worm inflaters available- I use a hypodermic normally used for insulin.
PowerBait is also an option. Watch the video tip with Buzz Ramsey on how to use it- the technique is the same as how I do the worm thing.
Hope this gives you some direction- as I said, it has worked for me!

Where are you going ??? What breed of trout ?
Fish your lake like you would a stream if you don't have a depthfinder.  Cast your spinners out reel back vary speed , try a cast and count down a bit to get it deeper. Yes to your crawlers and salmon egg question , slip bobber a try on depth for a while then drop it deeper or bring it up play around with it till you get bit. I would also try some casting spoons like Thomas , little cleo , phobe.
Good luck let us know how you make out.
If your set up for trolling that would take some time to answer so tell us what your boat is set-up to do.

Worms, salmon roe, and inline spinners are all good bait. I also sometimes use streamers on a fly rod in the shallows.
