Walleye stay deep unlike bass during their spawn during daylight hours now after dark you can use a green light to spot fish for them on shallow rocky shores, but during the day sight fishing does not work like you would bedding bass, walleye do not stick around to protect their eggs like bass do.

Can't do it on Lake Erie where I guide.  The water is stained and they tend to stay deep, even on the reefs.  About the only time you'll visually see a big female is if she has stressed out from spawning and she will come to the top.  But she is dying not feeding.

No reply at his email? There is another Lk Erie capt. that posts, with a bit of looking you can probably find him, and there is the possibility of a club member discount. Tom

In many places, you can't fish for walleye until the walleye season starts. (which is after most of the fish have completed spawning).

walleye start to spawn upstream on the maumee a few days after the water temp hits 40*F...... as soon as the ice breaks completely!!! generally mid march but sometimes earlier in the month depending on how the season starts to warm!!!! Small males (jacks) are the first ones to swim upstream so when you catch the first jack, you know its time to get up early the next morning and fish all day till the sun goes down!!!!!   When the water level is high, fish downstream. Later in the spring when the water tends to be lower, head upstream!!!! Take this advice from me, Ive been fishing the Maumee since I was five years old!!!!

A few weeks after the jacks start up river the females follow.... If you catch a pregnant female (large belly) THROW IT BACK!!!!!! They are no good to eat, TRUST ME!!!!!!  Besides that fact, this insures future generations of fish!!!!!

By mid May its pretty much over for the walleye run up the Maumee...  After this time, towards mid to late may the white bass start to bite!!!!! (much easier to catch) More on the white bass later, but this is about the glass eyes!!!!!  Although its pretty much over for the walleyes by now, I have been known to catch one every once in a great while, but very far in between!!!! I can recal catching a fairly decent sized walleye all the way  in late june!!!!!

Anyway, best wishes to all who expect to catch some glass eyes!!! Hope my advice helps!!!  May the bites be pleasant!!! '

    I love it!!!!
