Drove by the river Sunday morning after my coffe, fully expecting to see it completely iced in after the previous few nights of single digits. It was pretty iced up, but I saw a boat out there... had to give it a try. With very little water to fish.. it didn't take long to search for the walleyes. After two hours I was about to hang it up and was just drifting back down to the launch when I nailed a nice eater. Motored back up and got another on the next drift! Then I beached the boat on the ice and pitched a jig to this small spot where the must have been stacked like firewood! I caught about twenty nice walleyes in about twenty casts.. kept five nice eater males.. dropped the females (including about a six pouder) back in.. and went home very happy! God.. I love my river! Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)

Thanks for the update chris and hopefully the ice didnt scratch your boat up too much. Nice to hear someone realising the females especially this time of year. I myself wont eat the walleyes if they gte over 3lbs just cause your taking a good gene out of the pool.

Like what I am reading! In my neck of the woods, we have a slot limit on walleye and you may only keep 3 fish between 14 and 18 inches, and 1 over 24", but the big one counts as 1 of your 3. The 16-18" fish are the best eating anyway, why keep the big 'uns?

Exactly tom, 3 lbs walleye is about 20-21 in anyways depending on girth, when I say I dont keep any over 3 lbs I mean any no males or females. last year I caught a 7lb male 29.5 in was so skinny but his color was awsome straight silver no black back even. white tip fins. didnt even have any spawning marks on him from the rocks. Gorgeous fish Im gonna go back out tommorrow night I think and try catching some more eyes havnt been out to check the water temp in a week and we have had 3 nice days ina row again was almost 60* today I hate how the weather bounces around makes it hard to predict the spawn. Snowed a foot an a half last week and its all gone now. High hopes wish me luck. We have a 5 fish limit here nothing under 15'' and 1 over 18''  it helps alot we dont have a slot on the waters I fish though, couple of the lakes around do have slots but they are weird like none between 24-26 in most the people I know that fish for walleye wont keep any just like myself if they are over 20-21 in.

Love fishing for/eating WALLEYES!!!!  Perhaps we can get together for a day of fishing? I could tow your inflatable behind my motorized canoe....LOL, LOL!!!!!! Canoed your river with our church youth group...floated right over the top of sleeping walleyes!!!! Hope you can come to Finger Lakes Meet @ Seneca this year...made it the last 2 yrs...good fishing..great bunch of people.....later........Chuck

Chuck.. Not ignoring you.. just haven't been here in a while. We've had four deaths in the family in the past six weeks or so that have taken up most of my time... hopefully thing are back to normal for a while. I'm hoping to hit Oneida pretty soon, but the big boat's still in storage.. so I'll just play here on the Susky from the little boat for now. Also hoping to make the get-together this year, but can't promise. The wife always seems to come up with something more important! Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)

Sluggo: Sorry to hear about the deaths. Went through that here last year, and it looks like we are about to lose my wife's 91 yr old uncle soon. The older ones aren't to bad, the wife and I lost our 25 yr old son to a hit and run in Feb of 08. Funerals for young people are not pleasant. Tom

Chris...good to hear from you...sorry about your loss...we all learn to go through such hard times!!   Headed to Fayetteville NC to see my other son graduate college.  Hope to wet a line while there!      Will hit local walleye when we return....yes my wife has her projects for me to do...just wish she didn't hate fishing so much!!  Have Sundays & Mondays off work (night shift) in Syracuse.  Can get a day or two off with some notice, + another 3 weeks....I still ask ..can we get together to wet a line?  Know some walleye areas near here, or fish your area!!     Chuck
